Probably will want Three+ runes aswell.  I have died often with 7+ runes, because once I get three I always think I can get them all (although I have never managed crypt, as I dont play the correct race/job/god combo).

Also dont go too crazy on the effects, I believe there are rules about such things...

As for URLs the following line will work

Code: [Select]

Alright, I think this will be how high-score table looks. And as I update it, I will delete the older one so there's only one table that "moves around". Does this one look alright?

REST IN PEACE EXPLORERS OF THE DUNGEON.. THESE BRAVE ADVENTURERS SHALL BE REMEMBERED...

(1) 210030 Numeron the Severer (level 18, -26/163 HPs)
(2) 18263 Karzack the Hacker (level 12, -1/104 HPs)
(3) 4300 Karis the Slicer (level 10, -2/56 HPs)   (Player: Archaalen)

Color-coding: No Runes, One Rune, Two Runes, Three Runes, Three Runes+, Orb of Zot, All Runes+Orb, Winner!.

That's supposed to be the message of a Scroll of Random Uselessness (e.g. "You smell {something weird}." where the part in curlies is randomly generated). I think what went wrong is that the random part was pulled from an array with an out of bounds index.

You could report this as a bug.

I think that is one bug that should stay in there.  :)
Let's get the devs to add a scroll of rudeness.

You should really be careful around hydras if you specialise in axes, I see it got up to 14 heads before it killed you... axes (unless theyre flaming brand) will cause more heads to grow, and basically make the damn things stronger the more you hit them. I always keep a secondary weapon for hydras (ideally a flaming axe, since I usually go with axes too), and also at least one disposable hand axe to deal with red jellies.

I don't expect to find flaming edged weapons (let alone axes) before having to deal with hydras in the Lair or the Swamp. The existence of hydras alone is reason enough to build maces & flails skill. Big races can stick with blunt weapons anyway, since they'll be able to use giant spiked clubs for 20 damage per hit. Smaller races in fighter classes should eventually go with axes, since an executioner's axe is the only way for them to deal 20 damage per hit. Luckily, high maces & flails skill makes it easier to increase axes skill, and vice versa.

It's often safer to deal with hydras from a distance. They have no resistances except for poison, so you can blast them with fire, ice, lightning, draining or disintegration, and even slow, confuse, frighten, teleport or enslave them. Followers of Trog can call in reinforcements and retreat while their pet keeps the hydra occupied.

BTW Karzack, that's a pretty good set of equipment for a L12 character.

I took out 2 hydras prior to the one that killed me.  3rd time wasn't a charm I guess...

I went berserk on something before and then the hydra came to play too.  I summoned an ogre (wanted something a bit better) and then I was going to move behind him and let the hydra play with him.  Then I was going for the stairs to recuperate.  If I would have blinked instead of trying to move, I may have made it.  I will definitely be weary of hydras from now on.  I am currently close to encountering them again on my current character.

Another learning experience  :)

@Omnivorous
Maybe you should start a new thread for the high score list.  The list would be first post and then you could just modify it when needed.  Then we could put our dumps in there and discuss other things in this thread.  Just a thought.

PerKiller the Martial Artist is going really well.. His closest-to-death moments were at beginning of the dungeon, and he discovered Blork the Orc really early on. Had to go out of his way to survive, using up all teleport scrolls twice combined with all Healing Potions he were lucky enough to discover in inventory, and stair-hopping while hasting with -very- few hitpoints left.. He was close to giving up, just give in to the bloodthirsty mob of orcs and summoned creatures of Blork, but Okawaru's fighting-spirit would not let him surrender so he ran as far as his feet would let him, stopped whenever he could, making use of common scrolls and potions he'd normally not trust to get him out of such a hairy situation.. With some luck he managed to escape the encounter, diving deeper into the dungeon, leaving the angry mob behind him for now..
He then discovered Orc Mines, The Lair a Jewelry Store and The Hive. He's now making camp at Level 2 of Lair of Beasts and this is his current standings:

Finally a char that's NOT a MiBe working out well.. :P Pretty refreshing and fun character to play too.. Incredible speed as a Centaur, and Unarmed Combat negates all hassle related to meelee-weapons (which one to choose, which ones to try out, blahblahblah). He's got a nice collection of spell books too in his stash..if I only could make him start memorizing them..
Question: How do I divide a stack of multiple items? He's carrying way too much food, but I do want to bring -some- of it.
Edit: Ahh thankgod, I found out how to drop a certain amount now finally! Now I can continue the run! :)

That centaur monk looks promising for a somewhat exotic character. I don't remember ever playing an archer character. I'd be interested in your observations on gameplay/strategy with this particular combination.

You can drop part of a stack of items with the 'd#i' command. Press 'd' to drop, then enter a number like '4' or '12', followed by the letter of the item in question (or click the item in your inventory).

If you want to be able to cast spells with a non-spellcaster, you'll have to raise your spellcasting skill to level 1 by reading lots and lots of scrolls. I don't know if raising your Int would help, but it just might.

This evening I'll -finally- have a couple of hours spare time to go for another dive with a new char, and hopefully be able to submit another valliant death to the high score list (but not too soon). I'm undecided about which race/class to choose, so if anyone has a recommendation/challenge, I'd be glad to hear it. I'm not going to play a Spriggan Wanderer, though. ;)

Well I have played Centaur Hunter before, as a ranged/archer character, even though I don't like that idea..and it's been pretty powerful, then again, they've usually all died once something starts hitting hard and close-up.

Anyway I got really excited by "discovering" the monk combined with Centaur..why don't you try that out and let me know how it works out for you? Unarmed Combat is around level 15 or something now and to be honest..bashing almoast feels like a MiBe while berserking! :P Especially with "Might" from Okawaru. Up his sleeve he's also superior with ranged-weapons like you said, and my char just learned spellcasting now! Time to return to my bookshelf at the Lair! :)

What do you suggest for Centaur Monks?  Focus on heavy armour or look more for evasion?

What types of spells do you usually favor?

I think heavy armour hinders unarmed combat.
