One day I'll have an idea someone else hasn't had before :^)

Having good ideas sucks. It's much better to steal somebody else's idea and make money on it. Remember Mr Edison ;).

Ideas are fun, but it's the blood sweat and coding that end up mattering.

Well. Yes and No. You don't want to spend time creating something that in the end turns out bad, just because the idea wasn't any good in the first place. The idea is everything if you complete something... and nothing if you dont.

The problem is that you never know whether the idea is good or not until you try it. Complex games are never based on a single idea - there are several major ideas and hundreds of minor ones. Some of them are good, some are not. If most of the major ideas are good, the game will probably succeed. If only fifty percent of the major ideas are good, the developer would gradually improve the design, throwing out bad ideas and introducing more good ones. The crucial thing is to have a playground for ideas, so that they can be tested right away. Design based on guessing is a bad design.

Yea, no. Idea is definitely the hardest part.

Hmmm...for the games I'm keen on making it's all about the idea I guess. I'm not much of a developer, so my stuff ends up being pretty basic and based on one sort of idea or gimmick.

Still, a creative idea is completely worthless without the follow through.

For some maybe ideas are the hard part...but see my other thread showing how many many of us have game design folders overflowing with great ideas.

I'm always having good ideas for games. Once a week, easy.

I would like to request someone to make this game:

Meeple Wrangler -
A side view physics type game. Think Lemmings and Dig Dug.
The goal is to just build a little colony of Meeples, living and breathing. Sandbox.
The player has no avatar. The mouse pointer becomes whatever tool you select. Click to use the tool or place an object.
The terrain will have dirt to dig with the shovel tool, gold veins to shovel and gain golds, water falls, lava streams, steam vents, steam creation when lava + water meets, etc....
Use water wheels and drive shafts to power, well, stuff that does things...[elevators? pumps? Tesla Coils that shoot bad guys?]
Build mushroom gardens by flooding underground chambers.
Your score is how many Meeples you have.
Meeples do not work or do anything but affect score. 100 meeples for the win.

Meeples do the following things, in order, if they can.
   1. Seek food and eat
   2. Seek a private place to sleep if they've eaten. Stop, play and bounce around if they meet another meeple, this takes up time...
   3. Sleep if they find a private unoccupied bedroom in time (bed with no other beds or meeples around)
3b. If they don't find a place to sleep in time, then go back to 1 - EAT.
   4. Divide, or give birth to another meeple, if they sleep successfully without being disturbed.

So basically their procreation process requires food, lots of space so they don't meet other meeples or be disturbed while sleeping, and of course lots of bedroom type spaces.

It's like having an ant farm, but you build the environment for them.

And of course there will be dangers. Creeples and such.

Yeah...and not a roguelike really. I just wanted to show that I come up with game ideas regularly.

I'd like to see a roguelike with AI that learns how you play and adjusts to be more difficult.

I've made several games, but never fully completed any because I haven't had a single good idea. I just recently thought of my first good idea ever, but this idea is super secret. (Actually, I'm just at work and don't have much time to explain it yet.)

There was this episode of the comic Strontium Dog called "The Killing" which I loved as a kid. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strontium_dog
Basically a last man standing, set in an odd sci-fi setting. 100 mutants and aliens fighting for money in a weird murder game in an abandoned town.

(They actually made a horrible computer game of it for the spectrum back in1984.)

I'd like a roguelike where each of the 100(?!) competitors would be a viable, playable character, each with their own abilities and characteristics. The character is randomly selected for each game. The object, to be the the last one alive.
It's a free for all, so the NPC's are killing each other too.

If someone would create this game, I'd gladly support with graphics and sound design. Just sayin'.

I think a RL based on the Battle Royale manga/movies would rock.  It's about the Japanese government kidnapping a random high school class every year and bringing them to an island.  Each is given a weapon and they put collars on them that explode if they try to leave the island or if there is more than one still alive after a certain time.

I think this would make a great RL, as each game could have a randomly generated island, with various buildings strewn about, and varying topography and natural features like trees and rocks and stuff.  Then each student could be randomly created and there could also be "cliques" of kids that start together and pool their weapons, with one or two in each group taking the active role of hunting the other groups or lone kids.

As the player, you would create a student and then decide to either start alone or as the leader of one of the cliques.  Starting as a loner would obviously make the game harder, because you would only start with one weapon (and it could be crappy like a hammer or something epic like a rifle), but you would get more points if you win.  Starting in a clique would give you alot more weapons at the start, but less points if you win.

The game could keep track of what each student does each turn as they try to kill the other groups while defending their friends.  Eventually, though, they will have to turn on their friends, because there can only be one left alive after a preset amount of time or they all die.

Yeah, it's a pretty sick story, lol, but wouldn't it make an awesome game?

Any sort of Hunger Games scenario seems pretty awesome.

Can also implement sudden-death timers and such to keep the pace going--- perhaps the island is sinking into the ocean... or Lava. Lava is sexier.
