Game Requests
« on: June 09, 2013, 06:16:18 AM »
I'd like someone to make a super hero RL based on the game Demonhunt.  With '@' as the hero and '&' as the sidekick.

  K? Thanks.  ;)

JO

PS: Feel free to make your own snappy little requests below. The 7DRL is only 9 months away...

Not to derail the topic, but I totally agree. Either do something with it or get a new DevTeam. It's the freakin' 21st century. We demand faster turnaround.

I'd like to see something like Jo's comic action RL idea come to fruition, with an open world platformer map and procedural key+lock-puzzles. In addition, someone should base an RL on The 1001 Nights – I mean, who needs elves and wands if you've got djinns and flying carpets!?

As always,
Minotauros
This matir, as laborintus, Dedalus hous, hath many halkes and hurnes ... wyndynges and wrynkelynges.

I would like to see a superhero RL...
With a choice of type of superhero that you are in chargen. Are you a mahou shoujo type transforming superhero, or do you have to do the Clark Kent? Or are you like the Thing?

With the exception of "the Thing" type pedigree you'd have two states of being; civilian and hero. Using hero powers while in civilian form raises the Awareness meter. If this ever fills up the general public discovers your true identity and the game forces you straight to the final boss encounter/place/level since there's nothing left for you but to take down crime once and for all or kiss your (regular) life goodbye!

Regular gameplay has the hero visiting the Police Station to get the low-down on what criminal activities are currently occurring in town. Taking down criminals (subduing small-fry and killing giant berserking monsters) skews the "Public Opinion" meter in your favor.
Destroying public property (cars, newsstands, fire hydrants, gazebos) skews the "Public Opinion" meter to your disadvantage. So does letting badguys destroy public property, but not as much.

Heroes that are strong could pick up cars to throw at badguys, lasers fired by either party pass through people, getting punched with super strength throws a person/thing in a direction with certain force; so there's a lot of possibilities for collateral damage.

Having high Public Opinion draws stronger evil-doers to the City, and beating the top dog wins the game. On the other hand having negative Public Opinion will cause police to give you less high-profile missions to prove you're not a loose cannon. If you ever hit Public Opinion rock bottom, you'll become Public Enemy number 9001 and have to fight both your former allies and the villains.

I'd be pretty excited about this game that will never be made  ;D

Alternatively I'd get a kick out of a Wrestlemania RL, where you get bonus points for doing flash signature moves. You have to please the crowd to keep getting booked for fights, so it's not about winning as effectively as possible. Rather it's about conserving your health while doing some Stone Cold Stunners on the poor fool that's up against you.

An Ico style roguelike could be fun. The player (@) is essentially invincible but can be stunned and pushed around by enemies. You have look after another actor (maybe a & to carry on with the sidekick theme) and if they die the game is over.

Normally escort quests are terrible but Ico was really just a big escort mission and worked out ok.

There was this episode of the comic Strontium Dog called "The Killing" which I loved as a kid. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strontium_dog
Basically a last man standing, set in an odd sci-fi setting. 100 mutants and aliens fighting for money in a weird murder game in an abandoned town.

(They actually made a horrible computer game of it for the spectrum back in1984.)

I'd like a roguelike where each of the 100(?!) competitors would be a viable, playable character, each with their own abilities and characteristics. The character is randomly selected for each game. The object, to be the the last one alive.
It's a free for all, so the NPC's are killing each other too.

If someone would create this game, I'd gladly support with graphics and sound design. Just sayin'.

@Aging Minotaur

I really do think you are right about a comic action/rl hybrid.

I've sort of moved on from game making and gotten into novel writing. But maybe next 7DRL...I've done a platformer before. They are easy peasy in gamemaker.

Here's one I whipped up in a couple of hours for my niece.

EDIT: I also had an idea of how to make the key_Item progression of zeldametroidvania be a little more manageable to program. You can set up 'changing stations' where you can spend you accumulated coins/gold/scrilla for different outfits and abilities. For example: Say you need the ice beam to get past a certain part, you only have to be sure the player has access to the changing station and the ability to find the coins needed to operate the thing.

If it's a scifi theme, then you save the crystal you've been collecting, go to the supply station and rearm. The strategy comes in that you can only have 1 weapon, 1 armor and 1 extra. If it's a fantasy theme, this will be a merchant or an armsmaster or something where you can spend gold to buy the Shoes of Jumping or the Grappling Hook of Advancement.

That might take out some of the requirement to explore, but it's still something to think on.

I was thinking a good super hero game would not be linear, but rather you'd start in your HQ, looking at a whole bunch of villians on your huge super hero sized screen.

Like how Megaman chooses his levels. You pick which baddy to go after. Kill off the 6 villians and then you can fight your arch nemesis. Like how Megaman must defeat all the robots in order to fight Dr. Wily.

Also you have a cybernetics lab and mutation chamber that will let you switch up your powers a bit, from time to time, using some finite resource. That's how progression will be handled.

I'll throw the idea of playing the evil artifact into the ring again.

You get picked up by hapless adventurers and become their preciousss ... errr ... twist them into becoming your minions. Of course, if you somehow get separated (usually in a bloody way) from your current host (which happens more easily to, say, a ring than a suit of armor), the next prospective host will move you closer to your doom (lava, dragonfire, etc) before you gain control.

Your host will gain experience, and so will you. Being an artifact, you'll grant some nice powers to your host, starting with things like "-1 to losing" and ending with "ring/sword/helmet of world domination". Some powers might also help you stick with your host longer, e.g. by turning it into a zombie on death.

Superhero game ... hm ... City of Heroes was wonderful. Too bad it's no longer around.

Hah... I almost did that for my thesis. Kind of a puzzle game where you need to manipulate people to do bad things so that you can possess them.

I've been mulling over an idea where you play as a haunted house and try and get rid of the people living in you. At first you're only able to move small objects and unnerve the occupants but you're powered by their fear and can eventually make the walls bleed, throw stuff around and conjure wet asian ladies out of TVs.

The challenge would be fighting against the exorcists and paranormal investigators that can harm you or the goths and occultists that think your shenanigans are cool instead of scary.
