What about keeping the list in the first post in the thread and modify it as more dead adventurers pile up?
About how many records we should keep, if everyone could keep every character it can be overwhelming, so limit should apply.
top 20?
or one player can have only two heroes in list?

This sounds good to me.  A top 20 characters that is on the first post of the thread.  As for how many per person, I don't know.  One for me is fine, but all characters are different and score can vary a lot compared to how far you made it or what you are carrying.

There was something like this .... ah here
http://roguebasin.roguelikedevelopment.org/index.php?title=Preferred_Key_Controls
And here
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.roguelike.development/browse_frm/thread/c4ebcb235cc275dc/?pli=1

As a player, this looks pretty good to me.  It also looks easier to learn for first time players too.  I have had many friends wonder how in the world I can remember what keys do what when most of keys on the keyboard are used.

Talk away, it can get pretty quiet around here sometimes.  :)

Welcome aboard.

It was a named one that hit me in the snake pit.  I'm not sure if it was Rupert I don't remember the name.  It probably was him though.  It was on the first level of the snake pit.  If I would have managed to get out, I may have been able to remove it.  There was a shop selling a potion of cure mutation.  It was a chance at least.  I didn't go down easy either.  I reeked havoc in the abyss.  It was actually quite fun.  :)  Minus the whole death thing.

Is there a way to help prevent being transported to the abyss?

On another subject; having that flaming weapon really helped against the hydras.  They were pushovers with that weapon and weren't much of a threat at all.  I was in the lair and before I knew it I was at the bottom.

I think my next goal will be a character that can score at least 75k points.

Welcome aboard dweller.  I wouldn't worry about being very successful.  You have done better than I.  I've never beaten one.  :)

Also, a late hi to everyone else who has recently joined.

Playing this makes we wish that I had this game as a kid on my old Atari 2600.

I swear they have something coded in this game to make it harder when you get a good start.  I've had a few characters get a good start, gear, etc.  Then, all of the sudden I am hit with out of depth monsters, uniques, ghosts, etc.

I've got all week off.  Hopefully and can sit down and have a good game or two.  It's much easier to play without the kids around.  :)

Edit:  Crap!  I was going good and then I stepped into the snake pit and was teleported to the abyss.  I was surviving pretty well.  I found a portal and as soon as I got to it a demon stepped on it.  Blink didn't seem to work.  I took him out and was taking his buddies out and then my teleportitis kicked in.  Mutated from one of the demons here.  Then a lich and his friends surrounded me and that was it.

@Omnivorous

A good feature is that you get a pet which, aside from fighting alongside you, you can load up with unwanted items and send it off to the town to sell it all so you can keep adventuring down in the dungeon.

This was one of my favorite features of Fate.

I have yet to try it, but I have it favorited on Kong.  Glad to see he uploaded it there.  I like Kong.  :)

I actually forgot he was making this until you posted this Curseman.  Thanks.

I think heavy armour hinders unarmed combat.

My thing is...why is there so many keys to learn when you can use a generic 'u'se key for a lot of them.  Or, maybe even a 'e'quip key for all equipment.  I know there is probably more to that under the hood, but I'm not a programmer.  This is about the only thing that bugs me.

I took out 2 hydras prior to the one that killed me.  3rd time wasn't a charm I guess...

I went berserk on something before and then the hydra came to play too.  I summoned an ogre (wanted something a bit better) and then I was going to move behind him and let the hydra play with him.  Then I was going for the stairs to recuperate.  If I would have blinked instead of trying to move, I may have made it.  I will definitely be weary of hydras from now on.  I am currently close to encountering them again on my current character.

Another learning experience  :)

@Omnivorous
Maybe you should start a new thread for the high score list.  The list would be first post and then you could just modify it when needed.  Then we could put our dumps in there and discuss other things in this thread.  Just a thought.
