If there will be a commercial / Pay what you want bundle, I'm in - If it's the second bundle, then that's all good and I will wait for the second bundle :)

I would very much like to join the bundle, I have a new rogue-like game that I am working on.

Unfortunately, I have to eat - and the non-commercialization thing really prevents me from entering. I am looking at hiring artists for this project and investing a lot of my own money and personal time.

I wouldn't mind something like 50% goes to charity, or if the bundle was a limited time thing i.e available for 7 days which could then be used to promote the iPhone / Android / Win7 builds of the game.

Anyway, just some initial feedback from someone who would rather make games for a living than a hobby.

I haven't played a good step-wise 1st person RPG in a long time. Could be an interesting project, if I didn't already have lots in a queue.

So I was thinking the other day, has anyone made a first-person eye-of-the-beholder or wizardy-esk Roguelike?

I'm sure it'd be a fun little twist on the genre.

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn-based) / Re: Good coffeebreak rls?

Now a coffee break rogue is an interesting idea for a project to tackle.

I don't think mine qualifys because it takes 2-3 hours to complete.

But maybe designing a rougelike with a 30 minute cap could be interesting. It could even be called "Escape the dungeon in 30 minutes, even though this is a turn based game" - It could be like speed chess.

Programming / Re: Worst bug you had?

I had a bug once when I was learning some DirectX 7 stuff that would reset my computer!

If I remember correctly I was sending malformed information into the index buffer. That was a real painfull once to fix.

If you suspect you have a bug to do with fileIO, check that you're reading/writing in the correct format (ie binary/text) I had a bug once where I didn't specify to open a binary file and reading from it worked *most* of the time. Forcing it to read in binary fixed the issue.

Programming / Re: Do you like your game?
« on: May 05, 2008, 10:05:31 AM »
I like my game Caverns of Underkeep for the following:

a) I learnt a truckload developing it
b) I got to draw alot of items and monsters, some of which turned out pretty good
and I was definately better at it than in the begining.
c) People say it's fun
d) I made a simple UI for non-roguelike gamers to play

What I dont like about it however is that

a) It takes a little too long to play for a browser based game
b) Theres no way to save your game
c) I keep thinking of things that I would do if I made a new Roguelike and it keeps begging me to be made even though I don't have enough time
d) I don't earn any money from the game

My guess is 10 finished :)

I'm not entering - I just spent 3 months full time coding a Roguelike and am a bit roguelike'd out at the moment. I would be very keen for next year however.

Caverns of Underkeep has been in a rolling beta status for a little more than a week now.

Many bugs have been fixed. If the game goes long enough without needing to be fixed then this version is close to the release candidate.

A new feature of this version include global highscore lists, I would like to find out just how few steps are required to beat the game :)

You can play the game at it's new location

I'm thinking about writing roguelike in C# (3.5)

There were a few times in my roguelike development where I wished I had something like linq

Come'on Sun Microsystems, you're falling behind ;)
