Edit: A simplified (Infra Arcana-like) graphics style is another way to reduce visual noise...
We both want to keep the graphics style away from cuteness. Going with "cute" graphics does remove most of the noise but we believe it also takes away what the game is trying to represent; then we have 16x16 limitation which forces us to add noise so that the undesirable pattern effect is kept at bay. I hope one day we can move towards 32x32. :D
Oh god this post makes my blood boil.

Are you saying IA looks "cute"? Have you even looked at it? It's very simplistic and crude, almost like ASCII graphics - which is perfect for someone like myself who can't stand cute graphics either.

I guess it could depend on what you put in the term "cute" though. They do have a sort of quaint minimalism.

Now here's some examples of what I consider cute in a bad sense:
* The new ADOM tiles - http://bombliss.com/images/AdomCapture2.png
* Dungeons of Dredmor - https://www.gaslampgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/dred_shot19.jpg

Sorry for my very late response (somehow I missed your post). I wasn't referring to IA at all, but doing an overview about the current tile style we have in ToT. Also, totally agreed with the cuteness present in the examples you posted; those would simply destroy the experience for any roguelike / rpg game I would dare to play.

I don't know about slower paced combat specifically, but melee blocking is definitely on our list.
Sweet!

What I meant with slower paced combat was having longer pauses between strikes so that if you miss or if your strike gets blocked, you'll probably think about going defensive instead; slower paced combat also forces the player to better time his attacks.

Good work, the game is getting better and better. I would like to suggest something related to combat mechanics. It would be nice if characters could block strikes during melee confrontations, it could also go slower paced, therefore making it more strategic and fun to duel in. Just some thoughts.

Keep up!

@Aukustus
I'm here just to say the editor is finally finished.

- Fixed the scrolling.
- Removed the annoying sound when scrolling.
- Filling empty is now working :)
- Added percentage to filling map and filling empty.
- Undo and Redo system fully implemented. YAY!

I'll be online all day today. See you soon.

You know, I as very skeptical about this thread of yours when I first saw it long ago, as its subject is definitely NOT my type of game. But I just gave it go after watching the game's game play movie, and man, I kept playing it and playing it. It it actually very fun and it seems to be damn well executed with the right setting of difficulty.

Great job! I seriously advise those who haven't tried it yet to play it.

I just added two more games to my wish list: Wasteland 2 and Alien Isolation.

Wasteland 2 might be the "real" successor to Fallout 2 we all have been waiting for; it is in fact being developed  by some former members of the original Fallout 2. I'm really really excited about this one.

Alien Isolation might be the real Alien experience I've always dreamed of. Not only I'm a huge fan of the Alien series but also always wanted to play a survival-horror around it, instead of a common shooter. It looks marvelous and well executed; I just hope they don't ruin it.

I've played it for a bit and the game seems to be working rather great. I have a comment on its game play though, it seems that the blood splatters left by some slain creatures stay on top of loot, hiding the loot itself from the player view, either partly or completely.

Man, it does look awesome! You will be able to add some really nice effects with it. Source code? :D

Hey I was just testing the game, I guess you also noticed Marwal's dark tile :).
Anyway the game is looking REALLY nice! I very proud of being part of it!

Ah! For some reason I always thought of recall stones in your game as something you could have in your inventory (don't ask); so we are talking about re-spawning points. Ok, I think now I know exactly how to draw it.

Hey Aukustus, I just want to say that I'm currently lacking the needed time to resume my work for you regarding the editor and the requested tiles; I'm also having trouble using Skype at my work.

About the stone of recall, how do you envision it?
Is it a large stone or something you would use in a necklace?
Do you want it to have a certain shape or you want me to simply use my imagination?
I was thinking of having the stone emanating a some kind of glow, what do you think?
How many Stones of Recall there will be? I can make each one unique if there aren't that many.

@Morcrist, Joonas and Dewaldo (I've already shown it to Aukustus)

Ok guys, if you are still interested in this anatomy system send me a private message. I'll be leaving the forum for undetermined time since it has no longer room for me or my project. Nonetheless, I'll occasionally come by to check my private messages, for some time. I can arrange a skype chat explaining the whole thing if you guys really want it. I think this would be the best way. 500 posts! What a nice number to have it as the last post!

I've seen enough and I realize that no matter what I say I simply can't stop the mad stampede. Go ahead mates, continue to post and insult for as long as you want and keep fooling yourselves that it has nothing to do with the charade thread. Believe me when I say I won't open this thread again.
