...welcome to ADVENTURE QUEST, a deadly roguelike powered by imagination and mechanics. ADVENTURE QUEST is an open game that everyone can play, so don't be shy - read on and join in!

It's easy; learn the rules as you go! Follow the prompts, and be careful - permadeath is a cruel mistress. This isn't a game of Pathfinder!

Before you undertake a QUEST, let's recruit a LEADER for your ADVENTURER'S GUILD.

Suggest a race and class for your LEADER. If no race is specified, your LEADER will be HUMAN.

I suggest a Kobold Paladin

Your ADVENTURER'S GUILD has recruited a KOBOLD PALADIN for its LEADER.

Your ADVENTURER'S GUILD has enough PRESTIGE to recruit up to two more ADVENTURERS.

Will you recruit ADVENTURERS, or look for a QUEST?

Too late, I'd say? First come, first served. Instead, let's recruit a Drow Rogue and a Harpy Priest as the other adventurers, and then go look for a quest.

As always,

Your ADVENTURER'S GUILD has no more PRESTIGE! It's time to undertake a QUEST to gain PRESTIGE.

LORD GODDART, a local lord and landowner, offers you a quest.

TWISDEX has no LORE; he cannot find any additional QUESTS!
ZAXWEN's LORE check succeeds! He finds an additional QUEST!
AHATHA's LORE check succeeds! She finds an additional QUEST!

LORD GODDART insists that the GODDART FAMILY TOMB has become overrun with strange, slimy creatures since his uncle, Hewart Goddart, was entombed. Investigate the slimy disturbance, and purge it from the mausoleum. For completing this QUEST, you will gain +1 PRESTIGE, +2 TREASURES, and +500 GOLD.

ZAXWEN hears that the EMPYREAL CULT is offering a reward for the destruction of a temple in Upper Openwood. MATHIRIX, THE DRIDER QUEEN and her followers have overrun the abandoned site. The ruin has been converted into a shrine to XAXA, MISTRESS OF ARACHNOS; it must be purged before the DRIDER QUEEN hatches her brood upon the ALTAR OF XAXA. For completing this QUEST, you will gain +3 PRESTIGE, +2 TREASURES, and +300 GOLD.

AHATHA hears that the LOCAL MILITIA is offering a bounty on DUERGAR ears and STONE GIANT toes. The infamous STONE GIANT called GAN ELDERSTONE, known servant of the necromancer XAHAAR, has set up camp with his DUERGAR minions in the CLIFFS OF CORINE to the north of town. For completing this QUEST, you will gain +2 PRESTIGE, +3 TREASURES, and +300 GOLD.

Will your ADVENTURER'S GUILD dispatch a PARTY to the GODDART FAMILY TOMB, the ALTAR OF XAXA, or the CLIFFS OF CORINE?

Slimes have been done to death.  The spider thing will be worth more xp after they hatch.

Go after the giant.

Slimes have been done to death.  The spider thing will be worth more xp after they hatch.

Go after the giant.

Your ADVENTURER'S GUILD undertakes a QUEST for a LOCAL MILITIA. Your ADVENTURER'S GUILD has enough SUPPLIES to send TWISDEX, ZAXWEN, and AHATHA on the QUEST.

Your QUEST begins!

TWISDEX, ZAXWEN, and AHATHA arrive at the site of a cold and disused camp in the foothills. Following an obvious trail winding through the CLIFFS OF CORINE, your party arrives at a narrow crevasse in the tall steppes. Pegged to the cliff walls are freshly-scalped humanoid heads, and a low wall of ugly stone blocks sits a few feet from the cavern mouth.

ZAXWEN spies movement out of the corner of his keen elven eye, and whirls to face two dark-skinned DUERGAR dwarves, peeling themselves away from the walls of the cliff-side pass behind them as some sort of supernatural camouflage fades from their bodies. The DUERGAR wear hardened flowstone armor, and wield stone handaxes. At the same time, a second pair of DUERGAR hustle out of the cavern entrance, brandishing crossbows. These take cover behind the low stone wall.

This area consists of two ZONES: the NARROW PASS and the CLIFFSIDE CAVERN SHELF.
This CLIFFSIDE CAVERN SHELF contains two FEATURES: the CAVERN MOUTH and the STONE WALL.

TWISDEX is caught by SURPRISE! He cannot yet act.
AHATHA is caught by SURPRISE! She cannot yet act.

Your PARTY awaits instruction!

As these are low level guys, I say hold down the key and bump 'em to death, keeping the melee guys in between us and the shooters.

Yeah and since Zaxwen's going first, have him take a shot with his crossbow as before closing the distance.

The DUERGAR wielding crossbows are ahead of you, the DUERGAR wielding handaxes are behind you.

Yeah and since Zaxwen's going first, have him take a shot with his crossbow as before closing the distance.

Who will ZAXWEN shoot, and with whom will he enter melee?

How close is each group?  Might need an ASCII map to make good decisions here.

Anyway, I'm thinking that Zaxwen should lay some suppressing fire on the archers while the other two rush the archers.  Twisdex has a shield and the best armor, and should lead.  Zaxwen has the best mobility and can catch up when the axe dudes get too close.

Creatures and characters can move (or attempt to move) in our out of melee with one another, or into or out of ZONES or FEATURES.

This area consists of two ZONES: the NARROW PASS and the CLIFFSIDE CAVERN SHELF.
This CLIFFSIDE CAVERN SHELF contains two FEATURES: the CAVERN MOUTH and the STONE WALL.

Your PARTY and the axe-wielding DUERGAR occupy the NARROW PASS ZONE. The DUERGAR crossbowman occupy the CAVERN SHELF ZONE.

Zax definitely needs to cover Twis and AHA from the axe-wielding dudes until they get their wits about them. Then Ahatha should hang back, since she has no armor, and shoot her bow (can she heal?), while Zax and Twis rush the crossbowmen so they don't get sniped all day while they melee.

How much turn-based are we (if at all?)  I see one can shoot & move & melee in one turn for example, but what about the SURPRISED guys? Do the dwarves make their move before them, or after?
