Other Announcements / Re: Need help find a rougelike game
« on: October 06, 2008, 04:16:57 AM »
In everyones opinion which rouge game is the most advanced;dept, character custimization and challenge?  There are so many out there, I'm looking for one to stick with.
It depends on what kind of games you like. ToME 2 falls into all of the categories except mabe difficulty (if you are used to the genre and are a little bit spoiled) and it is a little but scummy like other bands. Nethack and Slashem are very deep and well made but character customization is lesser than some roguelikes. Powder is a shorter game but is AMAZING and has some balance.

Stone Soup has already been mentioned but as of right now i think it is the best roguelike that is currently being maintained. It is an extremely well-balanced game that you should enjoy for a long time. I have never had many crawl characters that didnt advance uniquely.

Also, there is adom but it is not being maintained.

edited 10102008 for content and a little bit o grammar.

I may post more here later but i am tired now.

Have fun in the jungle. I am sure you will get a lot of inpiration from it.
Actually when i was sick for 2 days with diahrea i wrote out the plot for the rl i want to make. No telling yet cuz i dont want to be a talkie..

Just wondering if you have looked at sewerjacks code, and if so what did you think? I know I dont comment my code though.
Not yet as i have been busy with a million things but i plan on it for sure. Do you know of any roguelikes with easy to understand clearly commented code?

I've only won a couple rl's myself and those were spambands (not saying anything about them just that they are spammy). The reason that i play roguelikes is because they are difficult.

on a side note i am learning c++ for unrelated reasons and the roguelike source codes that i have looked at are WAY over my head so now i MUST make one even though im talking about distant future. (going to the jungle soon for aboot a month no computers  :'()

Stone Soup I had many minions and i couldve led them in and left but i just had to take the orc warrior myself. One of my farthest characters too. I had SO many options but i thought i could fight it out. I was an idiot. That is probably my biggest mistake on ALL RLs just because i started on Angband and ToME where you can do that.

No. Not really. Its fun but it seems like its more luck than skill. But that might be the fun of it. It seems like sometimes you get enough bat and air but sometimes you just get useless life(i speak of where it is placed not if it is generated). If i think of any suggestions ill let you know.  BTW our names are kinda similar!! :)
