Below the normal dungeon he found a cavern.
He was using the normal fighting style.
He had 92% of the required experience before the next level up.
His body temperature was cool.
He had fever.
He was burdened.
He used 1163 gold on sages and their services.
He paid 0 gold to deep smiths for their help.
He received divine help 0 times.
He was resurrected once.

Deepest I've gotten so far in Frozen Depths. A Wand of Extraordinarity is the only reason I even beat Vir've on DL10.

Programming / Re: Doing RL with JS/PHP?
« on: June 24, 2009, 06:50:36 AM »
Doing a roguelike with Javascript/PHP wouldn't be too difficult, as long as most of the gameplay was handled in Javascript.

Creating a web-roguelike with server-side PHP scripts called through AJAX or something seems an original project (I guess it would be a multiplayer one, otherwise I don't see any sense) but also very tedious to implement, I think. (And also to play... when playing roguelikes on my computer, I often do several actions per second (even more if you are using auto-explore feature of DCSS and count each move as one...), and the network lags would not allow me to do that in a web-roguelike). Thus, I am not sure whether this would be practical.

Rather than sending a request for each move made, you would only have to make an Ajax call for persistent information. Save/load, character stat changes, inventory management, could all be Ajax'd, but they wouldn't even have to return any output. Just a silent save. Stuff like monsters and moving around could all be done through JS.

This is actually a lot of fun, I beat it in an hour or two on Rookie  ;)

Programming / Re: Writing to the console (vb6)

You're going to need to check out the Console API from MSDN.

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms682010%28VS.85%29.aspx

This page has 3 examples in VB6 on what to do with that information:

This is a cool game. Like I said before, the double-tile display both looks and plays good. The only problem I have is that the game's levels are deterministic, but the monster drops aren't. You can either have a good or bad game. Plus, it seems like each level has to have the rooms cleared in a certain order, and the game becomes more trial and error than anything.

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn-based) / Re: 7DRL: Mines of Elderlore

It is a fun game, it took a while for me to progress very far but the double-tile display is really cool. The only things I didn't like were that there was no counter for how many health potions you had.

Classic Roguelikes / Re: Crawl - tips & strategies
« on: February 06, 2008, 02:45:56 PM »
Dumb question, but I can't find any info in the manual. In the skill screen (m), it says I have unallocated experience. Can I manually allocate it, or does it do it automatically?

Cool game, gave it a quick play. The only real problem that I have with it is the UI, it's not very intuitive (but not totally unusable), and more status messages would be cool. I guess I'm just spoiled by Crawl, though.

This is going to be my first 7DRL. Right now my only problem is selecting my development environment.  ::)

I'm a sophomore CS major. I should probably find some sort of job and make some money so I'm not broke all the time, but I enjoy working on my own shit too much :(

The game is pretty neat, but the text is text/message log is hard to read, at least on my monitor (1024x768). Keep it up though

As far as an open-source dungeon generator goes, check out Heroic Adventure!. I always thought the dungeons were pretty cool looking. It's in C#, even if you don't know it I'm sure you could make sense of it.
