Frozen Depths is my current favorite. It's the roguelike I've spent the most time playing, that's for sure

Why not just make a DukeNukum RL?

I think that was suggested at chaosforge, along with a wolf3d roguelike

Can't imagine what isn't yet suggested. You can make roguelike out of anything. Btw just tried to play Nethack but it's boring. Actually I think I don't like roguelikes... but that just makes me try harder to make Kaduria something better.

Yeah, that is a good motivation. Hope to see it soon.

Definitely IVAN. Nothin' like beating the crap out of people with your own arm!

Once, I made it out of the first dungeon and into the second town, where I ran out of food and died.

Is it even possible to win? Seriously?

When I played, I used to get past the first dungeon at least half the times! Make sure you eat all that Genetix Vesana (or whatever her name is) drops, there's plenty of food in that level. The farthest I've ever went is the second dungeon, a few levels down (damn mines), where there's this guy that just needs to scream and you get hurt. The closer you are, the more hurt you get every time he screams. It's horrible. I once got near him, but died after a scream or two, couldn't slay him.

How do you usually die?

Also, there have been reports of people who did win ;)

I generally get past the first dungeon "most" of the time, once you get experience it isn't hard to know what works.
However IVAN is one of those games that the better equipped you are the harder your enemies are. This is very important in the second dungeon, leave those great items behind until you need them to defeat something big.

I struggle to beat the screaming guy, my tactic is to transform into a werewolf and beat the crap out of him, also put health potions in cans so they dont break as easily.  However I am no expert at this game, I have gotten as far as the dark frog? level a few times.

There are so many little things that you can do to increase your chances in this game, eventually you will figure most of them out.

Yeah, Ivan is definitely up there for me. I would have to say that it is a tie between DoomRL and Ivan actually. I haven't played ADOM in awhile but it does have a special place in my heart because it was the first RL I played. However, Ivan and DoomRL are just crazy, good, masochistic fun. I don't think I have ever died so many times in a game (Ivan) or had much more fun then the original (DoomRL). Dwarf Fortress also gets a special mention, I love the game and the concept but until I get a handle on being able to play it better I can't really justify saying it's my favorite (even though it is pretty damn tempting even without full knowledge of the game). Dwarf Fortress I think will be one of those games that will continue to grow on me until it finally is my favorite.

Dwarf Fortress is what I play the most lately.  It's amazing how much detail and work Toady One has put into that game.

Ragnarok is the first one I've beaten, and it's always been a favorite of mine.

Haven't yet seen one of Kornel's games that I haven't loved. Favorites are DoomRL and Berserk!.

I discovered the genre through NetHack, but I've discovered I don't care for that level of complexity.

My favorites would be Iter Vehemens ad Necem and Ancient Domains of Mystery (I like the first one more though). I just LOVE Ivan's graphics. Dunno why...

My In-Dev roguelike (which is in around the middle of development) even slightly reassembles IVAN...  ::)

YAY! GO IVAN! :D

Finally, another IVAN supporter! Haven't played for a long time :\

I might try to distribute binaries for linux at some point... the fact that you have to compile (several problems with compiling too) is really not helpful. Kinda like crawl, really.

While you are at it take up IVAN development as well, it needs another release!
