your favorite roguelike

i noticed a few threads similar to this but none that ask what your favorite roguelike is, the closeset thread to this is "what would your dream roguelike have?"

mine would have to be ADOM by a longshot. you can do anything plus it isnt just one goal to beat the game but there is quite a few goals and quests to get one of the multiple endings, you are not al the time in a dungeon (there is an overworld map) plus there are caves and unique areas to explore like the tower of eternal flames and the underwater caves. there are special areas, like an arena, casino, vaults, etc... there are multiple artifacts needed to beat the game such as the elemental orbs, and so many ways to do things. it also features unique ways to get past things, like you need the trident of the red rooster if you are a lawful guy wanting to pass through the chaos gate and slay the chaos god. there is background elements like background corruption and various special effects rooms. overall adom is an incredible roguelike with everything. thats why my favorite rogelike is adom.

I only played a few simple ones, but so far, Nethack is my favorite, And Crawl is second, Rogue would be third if it classified as a Roguelike

DoomRL is the one I have played seriously in rogueplayer mode, and the one I enjoy the most, I also like ADOM, Moria and rogue. Papaki also looked interesting although development seems to have stopped.

DoomRL is probably my favorite, but I also enjoy Drash, Scrap, SewerJacks, and Frozen Depths quite a bit. Oh, and Warp.

Nethack is the only RL I play, just for fun not seriously. Just before the Quest NH becomes too hard for me. I wish Dev Team would release new version. You can always hope:)

Anyway, my favourite roguelikes must be Angband (for its simplicity), ADoM (it brings good memories, it was my first RL), DoomRL (it is way too cool, but I cannot play it on 64-bit linux ), and maybe Crawl (since I've spent may hours in it too).

Incursion is looking really neat, too, I guess it will become a new favourite over time.

Truth is I am not playing roguelikes much nowadays. The university is really killing my free time.

I have answered this question in this thread, but I can update it.

I hate Angband variants (for its simplicity), but I like ADOM (classic), Crawl (great balance), DoomRL (very well done, although small), IVAN (which somehow seems underrated on the newsgroups, but has many fans on this forum - unfortunately it is incomplete and does not seem to grow). From the old games which are now quite forgotten, I like Ragnarok/Valhalla which was my first, and Mission Thunderbolt which was a quite good commercial roguelike. I did not try Incursion or Dwarf Fortress or other new games yet because I was busy trying to win Crawl again, and now that I won Crawl I have some work to do and I'll try them then.

Nethack is good for casual playing, I think it's one of the few reasons I like it. You can't really play other roguelikes that way.

& loads of other less known ones

Also, not entirely roguelikish, Dwarf Fortress and totally unroguelikish, Cortex Command, just recently.
