Nethack 3.6.1
« on: May 01, 2018, 06:28:42 AM »
It's out now, but seems to be some kind of bug fix/feature freeze release. When I tried to run it Win10 smartscreen catched it.. well, I'm too suspicious to run it before other people try it on Windows.

Smartscreen seems to nag about everything these days. Anyway, I like the new HP indicator bar/highlight thing. And quite surprisingly I've played couple of times. I don't usually play anything, including roguelikes. But dying in early game is my idea of fun. The last game ended soon after I read a random scroll in a low hp situation, killing my pet also because it was a scroll of earth.

I was psyched to give it a play, buy I ended up getting the same missing kernal32 entry point error as I am with the latest tales of majeyal.  :(

What kind of system you have? It should be 32-bit version, so it should run on both. I have 64-bit Windows 10.

It does say 7/8.x/10 versions so maybe it's not even compatible with XP? Someone still using xp could confirm it. Is there a reason you are on XP?

I missed where it stated win7 as the lowest version.  Thanks for looking into it.

While I do legitimately prefer xp to newer versions of windows, the primary reason is simply financial. Just don't have the money to upgrade.

That sucks. And in those situations it would be wiser to get a new pc with 10 rather than try to hope for the best when installing 10 in older computer. My 8 year old 4Gb Acer has some problems running 10, mostly when it's updating (the update process is a resource hog). I just got a job so I'm finally planning to get a new pc. Not that I need more memory, speed or anything like that, but the old Acer has just started to run too hot and cleaning the computer inside doesn't seem to help.
