Roguelike with good/advanced combat-system?

Hey guys, my first post here!

Just got into NetHack, and its definetly a fascinating and fun game!
I do find that i dont find the combat terribly compelling and i was wondering if you guys could reccomend me a similar roguelike but with a little more elaborate combat system?

Sadly no such game exist yet. At least not if based on traditional role-playing systems (derived mostly from D&D).

Have you heard about dwarf fortress adventure mode? There is a very advanced combat system you can look at one of my screenshots:

And that's not all! Enemies can bleed out, vomit (and then dehydrate and die) and you can do very brutal finishers

It`s true that RL combat might look simplistic compared to standard RPGs, something that put me off initially ("wha, you bump into something and that`s it?"). But this is a deceptive angle, you need to adjust your mindset a little bit. Nethack is just not a very combat-oriented RL to start with.

I`d say in roguelikes the choice of positioning, equipment,  actual foe (you shouldn`t fight everybody!) and other factors make up for "combat" instead of traditional step-by-step cRPG menu driven action. Once you`re face to face with your foe it`s down to bumping and RNG mostly (talking classic melee character of course, spellcasters, sneaksies and such might differ)

Try Sil for probably the best tactical fights in the RL world. I also love fighting - Crawl (DCSS or original), Caves Of Qud, Brogue are also good tips for intelligent carnage.

I second Sil. I haven't played IVAN, but I've heard it has a deep combat system.

Incursion has pretty detailed implementation of AD&D mechanics (more complex then e.g. in Neverwinter Nights games).
Tome4 has pretty complex combat system, comparable with modern hack&slash games (maybe even too complex as gameplay becomes closer to a Diablo-style games).

Seems to me that in terms of what you actually do moment to moment during combat, ToME4 is probably the one with the most going on.
