According to Kisielewicz, the developers of Doom were very supportive of even the DoomRl.

Copyright has too much bullshit in it to function properly (just my opinion).

Software patents are silly, but copyright is in most cases ok. Imagine if you could create a 1:1 Super Mario game for those platforms Nintendo doesn't support. Or Zelda! Those games would sell really well, but it would be not cool to steal IP that way. We should know that as developers even most of our games are free. Even then it would be really annoying if someone made almost exact copy of your game that you spent a lot of time to create. Or copy the content and style of game to a game of another genre.

I'm not saying about like ABSOLUTELY copying but for example use the same universe and characters to create a different game (not clone).

If it doesn't use any graphics, sounds, or names from or similar to stuff from Doom, there's not really much they can do. The gameplay is nothing like Doom either. You can't copyright "fighting demons in space."
Creator of the 7DRL Possession: Escape from the Nether Regions
And its sequel, simply titled Possession

Well if there's any doubt I think the creators have Doom have now made their opinions clear. Romero and Hall have tweeted support of the campaign, and John Carmack has become a Kickstarter backer (one of only 3 KSes he's ever backed).

I think we're good :)

Considering I half-expected Jupiter Hell to never see the light of day, it's shaping up pretty well. The question for me is whether it's going to be a Chinese Democracy/Duke Nukem Forever, in the sense of it being impossible to live up to the implications of its long development time.

I'm on the fence about backing it. I've had nothing but bad experiences with Kickstarter so far.

The plan is to give certain backers access right from after the Kickstarter ends, so we'll have a very public accountability from the beginning. It will have a long development time, but there will be semi-open builds from early in the process. This is, quite frankly, how roguelikes must be made, continuing to expand and refine them over time with player input.

Let's hope so. None of those guys are currently on id software, so I think the opinion of id software could be more important if they are the holders of IP. I guess Carmack is the kind of guy who doesn't really care, because he made his money from shareware era which had similarities to kickstarter (in a way that there wasn't a big corporation behind them until they became one).

Kickstarter, steam greenlight and gog voting in the same time... Seems dangerous a bit for me. Especially in case that their kickstarter campaign would fail.

It isn't that uncommon a thing for the most part, though gog is something of a mystery compared to most in general as they are kind of weird when it comes down to what they go for and all.

The idea is to concentrate attention at once instead of trying to achieve everything in dribs and drabs. Seems to be working well enough - we're in the top 50 on Greenlight :)

Just got to show off the game and the engine at IRDC. Lots of positive impressions, which is nice! Unfortunately the 'feel' of it doesn't translate well to video. It's hard to advertise turn based games :/

Probably need some menus afoot, or worst case some kind of external overlay Doomsday Countdown/Countdown to Destruction to highlight/tick through the flow of the turns to make them more explicit.

Final 48 hours mark activated pretty well---only roughly ~$5K to go and the most important goal shall be made yet!   8)

I backed it and nearly have my brother talked into it!
