Just a Little Update about the game

Just tried to do a 7DRL without a proper plan ... and almost failed.

In the end i will just finish a very, very basic game, created using Game Maker

Just one room with random placement for wall's and monsters. The objective is avoid the monsters that will follow you everywhere, take the GreenOrb and proceed to the exit on the corner (you start on the upper left corner).

Between yesterday and today, I only had a few hours to work on it and will have may be 2 or 3 more hours until Sunday to fix some bugs (still has a lot of them).

Hopefully i will finish a playable game just in time.

Lessons learned:
Start small, really small. My first ideas for the game were too big and i had to change everything in the game and scale it to a very simple game.
Have a plan!!! Write all the ideas before starting.
Choose the right tools before starting.
Real Life will always be a problem, so be prepared to change your plans.

Just a Screenshot to show the little progress i did until now

You learned a lot and will probably walk away with a playable game. Those lessons you wrote are the most important things really.

That's a good first go. Grats!

Thank you very much

I had no idea that programming a Roguelike was so hard :/ ...

i know programming (Visual Basic and Object Pascal) but had to use Game Maker to speed up the development (i have a license a for the 8.1 version but never used it) because the last time i did a programming project was more than 12 years ago.

This Roguelike showed me that my skills are a litle bit rusty (may be more than just "a little bit")

Next time, my game will be better and bigger :)

Your next game doesn't have to be bigger. A lot of the challenge for the 7DRL is about making something polished that is simple and concise. What are a few mechanics that really work well together? Do they result in something fun? How much depth do they provide? The roguelikes that provide good answers to those questions end up being successful 7DRLs, in that people continue to play and enjoy them. The size, length, or realism and such is not as important.

Unless by "my next game" you meant something outside this challenge... in which case, you can probably ignore all of this.

@AquaTsar17
When i say that my next game will be bigger, it mean next year 7DRL. I plan to participate and create something bigger than this game. It has only one room, it is very simple and i know i can do much better, i have time to prepare for it.

After finishing this 7DRL 2015 i plan to modify and improve the actual game i have, and put a few more ideas i had for it but could not implement due the lack of time.

Between this and next i plan to create another RL with another language, may be Python, and would like to experiment a little with TADS http://www.tads.org/

Thanks, and by the way ... great game the one you are working on HarvestRL

Finished my game.

You have a link for the game here https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/26236751/CARL.zip

Tomorrow I will post more information about my experience

It's only a little game, you take a few minutes (or seconds) to finish it, but, hey it is a playable game.

Please post your opinion about it.

TIP for Google Chrome: if it says "CARL.zip is not commonly downloaded and could be dangerous", just click on the little arrow and click "Keep". I think this problem only happens in Chrome, not in Firefox
