Songs from your country
« on: November 29, 2014, 01:23:53 PM »
Let's start with CMX - Rikkisuudeltu. I think it's a song about how people end up lonely when their relationships doesn't work, but also about "eternal" love which I think is "it" he sings about, some kind of personification of love, old worn out kind of love that can't get better with a new girl/boyfriend. This is their newer songs, but sounds a lot like older stuff which I think is better.

Finland is also known for all types of heavy metal. I'm not that big fan of it, but there are some good bands like Insomnium. I really have to get their album Shadows Of The Dying Sun. I like the way it's mixed, nothing stands out too much, it's surprisingly smooth for metal music.

I'm huge fan of finnish metal :)
Finntroll, Moonsorrow, Turmion Kätilöt, Ruoska, Ajattara to name a few...

As for russian music... I'm more into heavy music, but unfortunately there are very few heavy russian bands that worth listening.
Here are a few random videos of different genres that are at least original and distinguishable:
Otto Dix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hr4KnA-Bno
Michael Abrau have very unique voice.
Deform: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOz7dNdBxqo
I just love emotional refrain in this :)
Chaif: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ovjxmfP5tgo
Classics of russian rock :)
Bi-2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1u7WN2zBEDc
Song from soundtrack for cultic russian movie 'Brother' by band that become cultic after this :)

I think this is pretty cool. It's a drum cam version (drums little bit louder) of Sotajumala's "Sinä et ole yhtään mitään". The song isn't that good, but that drum playing is something else!

My new find: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJQL1EZYWeM

Very atmospheric, it reminds me smoky, dimmed pubs :)

Nice, very minimalistic. Is that polish? Hope I guessed it right.

New video from Saara proves she is quite good singer after all.

My most recent find is De Staat (I know the band is formed almost 10 years ago, but I never even heard about them until recently):

I'd say - this video is somewhat roguelikeish :)

Speaking of Finnish music, I think Finlandia by Sibelius is pretty cool composition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5zg_af9b8c

New song 'Kuudet raamit' from Stam1na, it's quite nice. I like that sharp thrash-metal style. The video is 360 degrees, may not work in all browsers.

The culmination of finnish music is a band called Eläkeläiset (The Pensioners). Their only mission is make cover songs, but change them to an old music style called "humppa". Lyrics are also totally different than original song, often quite hilarious. Here is an example, Hunting High and Low by Stratovarius:

And this is the Eläkeläiset version "Miksei täällä humppa soi?":

Wow that was so obvious that I missed it!  The early lyrics had a very slight Alice in Chains vibe that I dug too. Off to play it again.

But wait just to give this thread credit I will post something from my home country (for proof I don't just listen to metal, just mostly.) Also sorry about the strong accent on his vocals...

Okay, I'll bite as well. No huge amount of great music has come out of Norway*, but I've been following these guys since I was around 10: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CZevj3fF-zU

Also, I think this is actually quite hilarious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO0gMqtc9x8 (tried to find his Strindberg-based masterpiece "Inferno", but it seems to have been taken off youtube since last I looked).

As always,
Minotauros

* I'm saying that since I'm not too fond of black metal. I'm sure there are those who would disagree ;)
