Exploring the ASCII Dungeon
« on: May 10, 2013, 03:58:46 PM »
So in a similar but also completely different way than Game Hunter, I've made a handful of roguelike Let's Plays on Youtube. My most recent series compared and contrasted various roguelikes in their "non-graphical" (i.e. ASCII) style. Feel free to check out the playlist, let me know what you think, and suggest other games for me to play!

Interesting Series.

Unfortunately, the rather large border around the video's actual game window makes everything quite small and hard to see.

Infra Arcana would be a nice one to cover.

That is partially an artifact of my recording software (you'll note it doesn't happen in Rogue Rage, Attack the Geth, and HyperRogue - to pick up the console, my software has to pick up the whole desktop, but it can pick up the T-Engine and Java on its own) and actually partially intentional. This is exactly what you see on my (slightly old but still quite modern) desktop with its full 1280x1024 resolution, and some games handle this large screen well, and others don't. If you can, turn up the quality to 720p, and it should be fairly crisp. Not perfect sadly because of Youtube's compression, but I do what I can.

I'll definitely cover more games - InfraArcana would be interesting!

I like this idea, I haven't watched them yet but I think the hardest part about it would be keeping the commentary interesting enough without visuals. Will be watching a couple later today though and will post back =D
