Brogue For iPad Available Now
« on: March 22, 2013, 01:13:20 AM »
I'm proud to announce Brogue for iOS iPad 2+.

The misses and I have worked hard to make the translation (touching, tapping and swiping) to a touch screen feel as awesome as possible. Touch and drag to move, tap to get info about the dungeon, double tap to move, and tap and hold to magnify where you're touching. When all else fails there's a virtual directional pad.

Brogue felt like a natural fit for the touch screen and mobile devices given its barrier of entry, how the game play scales and the ability to play without a keyboard. Pender has truly made a masterpiece and it just feels so right on a mobile device.

We've played practically non-stop since submitting Brogue, fixing a couple obscure (hopefully rare!) bugs, tweaking touches and adding in a missing feature or two and submitted an update to the app store that should be approved in the next week or so.

We'd love to hear your feedback (and your reviews)!

Hmm, this might be a good way to get my little sister into roguelikes... Brogue's pretty easy to pick up, and she loves playing games on my mom's iPad!
The Ed draws near! What dost thou deaux?

Some quick feedback

Good choice of options on the bar
Bringing up the inventory takes about 2 secs (iPad 4) as does clicking on an item. That's too slow really.
I find it hard to confirm throws - trying to tap on the map is too imprecise. Could we have an enter confirm button in the centre of the directional pad? Or is there another way? Not such a big deal with moving since I can finesse it when I arrive.

If you could sort the above, I'd be very happy

Agreed on both. Overall I find that the game struggles a bit on my iPad2 and pretty much all actions and movement come with a delay. Played for about 30 minutes last night and things moved so slowly I only got as far as level 4 in that time.

Throwing darts etc can be a little infuriating as it often takes a couple attempts to poke at the confirmation spot. I too vote for a center button in the movement compass rose. For throwing but also for tactical reasons-- currently you have to reach over for "search" in order to delay an action. Thanks for the port!
