2013 7DRLs playable on Mac
« on: March 21, 2013, 05:14:45 PM »
I'm not including games that you have to compile or install anything for, just because I'm not willing to do that right now. I'd imagine a lot of games would also work under WINE, but I haven't tried it with any of them.
This isn't an exhaustive list, of course, just what I've tried. I'll be adding more as I try them, and if you know of others, please post them, and I'll add them to the list as well.

Downloadable:
Alchemy
Back Up
Firestorm City
Live as Long as Possible
Mosaic
Possession
Rogue Break

Theoretically playable on Mac, but didn't work for me (my computer is really old, though, so that might be the issue):
NinjaRL (runs in Terminal. Crashed after the instructions screen for me)
So Many Jagged Shards (Mac app doesn't open for me)
Tetrogue (Mac app doesn't open for me)

Browser-Playable:
Hopefully, all of the browser games should work, but I'm including them here for completeness. Some require the Unity player.
3D Rogue
Comrade Pixel
Cutpurse Castle
Distant Echoes of Ancient Lies
Down the Brain
Fisticuffmanship
Han Yolo (haven't tested actually playing it since my computer's too old, but the main screen loads)
Hush Little One
It Did Not End Well
Faith in RL
Now Hiring Zookeepers
Rodney
Rogue's Labyrinth
Smashing Bad
Starship Rex
T@XI
The Conception (Somewhat. It loaded, but the game screen didn't display for me. Again, probably the fault of my computer or browser.)

I'm glad Mosaic works fine!  I don't have a Mac to test it on, so just have to rely on the T-Engine doing its whole cross-platform thing.  Once v1.0.1 of the T-Engine is out on Mac I'll get the OSX version of Mosaic packaged up for it too.

My game (Rogue's Eye) is written in Java and so should theoretically run on Mac (although I have not tested it!).

Hello there.
I'm author of Tetrogue.
I'm terribly sorry that the game doesn't start.
I managed to type LD_LIBRARY_PATH in a start script, instead of DYLD_LIBRARY_PATH (again :( ).
Fixed that and reuploaded dmg.
Please try again.

My little game Comrade Pixel runs on mac and since it's unity I could compile it easily enough if someone wanted it.

I haven't tried it yet but game-maker includes an OSX compile option. I could always poke it and put whatever it produces for Nya Quest up, though I can't really test to see if it works or any peculiarities it might have (I'd assume it'd be fine though :3 )

I've been working a lot these past few days so I haven't really gotten much time to test any more games, sorry...

My game (Rogue's Eye) is written in Java and so should theoretically run on Mac (although I have not tested it!).
It opens, but stays on a blank black screen. I think my Java is out of date, though. A lot of the Java ones haven't been working for me.

Still doesn't seem to work. I saw on your site you said you tested it on 10.8 though and I only have 10.7, so it's entirely possible the problem is on my end.

The web version works fine, it's just one of the ones I hadn't gotten around to playing yet. I put it up on the list.

Go ahead and put it up, and I'll test it to make sure it works. :)

Ah... I just tried it now and it's not as simple as pushing a button. apparently I need to sign up an account with apple's developer program or something and actually have a mac to compile on (I think?)
Sorry, looks like the only way my games will get on mac is if I explore the html5 option (which seems to work but I haven't the foggiest how to host it so it'll run properly XD)

Mine is built using Java 7, so theoretically it'll run. I haven't tested it though and I know some of Java 7 (and 5 and 6 for that matter) don't play nice on the Mac...

Yeah, I've heard that the pre-installed version (some offshoot of Java 6 IIRC) has issues.

Alchemy works well on the Mac according to reports (it's a pure Java/Clojure .jar file so not a huge surprise...)

I might be able to get KlingonRL going on Mac. I just got the new Gamemaker, which will spit out MAC executables. It might take some doing to get it updated to the new Gamemaker version, and I have no Mac to test it on.

Is it worth it? Are people playing roguelikes on the Mac that much?
