Lone Crawler
« on: November 24, 2012, 08:19:18 PM »
SolarRocketshiptoMars! has just released its first randomly generated single player game. It is called "Lone Crawler" and has you searching throughout the map looking for items, monsters, and walls. YES! I SAID WALLS! Beautiful form fitting brick walls. This game also has 3 Expansions coming out soon and did I mention...IT IS FREE?
Look under the page "Lone Crawler" on this site! http://solarrocketshiptomars.blogspot.com/?view=classic

It looks like a game you play with a pencil and a die. You print out this gif of a grid and the rules. Looks interesting. Look at the 2nd Nov 23 update on his blog.

This looks like a junior high school kid, so, you know, be gentle. We all start somewhere.

The problem with single player table top games is they are just so random. You aren't really playing the system so much as hoping for a good card or die roll. That's been my experience, at least. Table top games tend to shine in multiplayer face to face play.

That said I'd LOVE a good solo strategy game where my good decisions actually mattered, unlike Solitaire, where you really don't make much of a difference with your decisions.

Victory point games makes quite a few good solo table top games. They are mostly in a small format style similar to the 70,s. A few good solo playable war games too.

Onirim is a fun one.

I agree.
Solo table top games have the problem of being too much luck based.

Anyway I have to say I am very happy to see another one of them.. I'll try it and will let you know Thomas.

Have a look at Jo's solo card game Quest for the Goat's Horn -> http://roguetemple.com/forums/index.php?topic=2342.0
What I enjoy the most in roguelikes: Anti-Farming and Mac Givering my way out. Kind of what I also enjoy in life.

Hey now. Some people would just rather play a solo board game rather than a video game now and then.

And even if you were a geek with a girlfriend, good luck getting her to play board games. :p Unless she's a big enough geek too.

The original lone crawler has had a few rule changes and so the back of the card has been upgraded quite abit including a system for movement and running away. And I am working on a second Lone Crawler right now, that should feel more like a solo RPG, it is not done yet, no additions have been completed yet. Also I am a senior in high school (which might not mean much to many people) and i have a lot of ideas, i love role playing games the thrill of adventure filling someone elses shoes. The sight of seeing other people adventure with happiness as they discover a new treasure or unravel an evil plot against a dark king.
