HOLY CRAP! Red box D&D

I just found my redbox D&D set. No dice or anything, but the blue book companion is in there as well, the one with the horse and dragon on the front.
Old dirty basements hold untold treasure.

Still my fave version of D&D bar none. One night, me and my two usual gaming buddies sat down, made a random (more or less) dungeon, 7 characters and played until they all died, in 3 hours or so. Can't beat that

This was my start, and will always have a warm place in my heart.

Those Dungeon Crawling box games are fantastic...they inspired me to make my own board and card games over the years.

Basic D&D is my favorite as well. The
Rule Cyclopedia
has been by my side throughout the development of Cardinal Quest and has been my main inspiration for the game:

Oh man. I wish my basement was old enough to hold such treasures.

One of my biggest regrets were clearing out a load of old RPGs, including Runequest 2, my copy of the Rules Cyclopedia, and old copies of the original versions of Stormbringer and Pendragon
