If you're into CCG (collectable card games) mechanics or you just like Magic The Gathering, give Spectromancer a try.
You can buy it on Steam or just play it for free from the link above.
There are some limitations but you can still have a good time in the Single Duel modality, setting the enemy difficulty to "Archmage" and his deck to "Random". You can only pick the two worst decks though (Illusionist and Mechanic).

I am having a lot of fun with it, and the AI is not bad.

Rules: every turn all your powers grow by 1, and you have the possibility to play a card in one of the six slots. Then all your creatures (except the ones summoned this turn) will attack what's in the opposite slot (or the opponent if the slot is empty) subtracting their strenght to the enemy/opponent hps.
Fire, Water, Air and Earth are always there with little variation, while the fifth column changes according to the deck you are playing.

In the complete version you'll be able to play all the other decks and modalities (campaign, draft, pvp..).

Here's the card list for each deck: http://www.spectromancer.com/cardlist_en.htm

Loved MtG back in the days when it didn't have millions of cards... This is a pretty fun game, too. As a computer game, it does a good job of emphasizing the things you can't (or wouldn't really want to) do/calculate with a normal card game, but still retains that card game feel.

I am also a long time MTG player, but don't play anymore IRL since almost 15 years. I have to say I enjoyed the new cards with Duels of the Planeswalkers 2012 (you can find it on Steam as well).. too bad they introduced that Beknighted deck completely broking balancing.
Very good electronic conversion though.
Once I got among the top 50 players in the 1 vs 1 chart.

I prefere MTG to Spectromancer because of the greater variety of cards and therefore different situations where I have to immediately adapt, but on the other hand Spectromancer gives more importance to something I love in every tactical game (roguelikes included of course): math.
Always fairly rewarding to win against Archmage difficulty setting.

The iPhone version is called Kard Combat,  it has 8 types of magic, my favourite deck is chaos or demon because it is fun, the strongest magic type is healing by far in my mind.

Cool, is there a version for Android?

Aw ok, thanks.

Yeah Demonic and Chaos are very powerful decks.. Insanian Berserkers are a pain in the ass, that Doom Bolt is really nasty.. 25 damage for just 3 mana can easily destroy the stronges creatures after they've been hit once or twice.. and Demonic Quartermaster is maybe the most overpowered card in the game.

I also really like Beastmaster.. my favourites cards there are Ancient Dragon, not only a multi-remover but also very cheap considering the mana boost; Basilisk because it's strong and can easily put the enemy in big pressure if after a multiple damage spell he lose two or more slots, and White Elephant.. gaining 44 hps for 6 mana is definitely a good deal.
