Roguelike Database Broken?
« on: February 27, 2011, 10:08:43 PM »
I went through and rated all the roguelikes I played, and went to leave some comments, to find that I was no longer logged in.  So I assumed my session timed out and logged back in.  I re-rated all the roguelikes I've played and went to leave a comment and found that I was once again logged out.  I logged back in, and scrolled to the bottom of the roguelike databse screen and saw that it said I was already logged out.  How do I log in to the databse?

The IRLDb behaves as it expects to find forum data at the address http://www.roguetemple.com/'http://roguetemple.com/forums/' which hints it has been broken when Slash fixed domain name issue after moving RogueTemple to new server.

It seems to works for me... strange. Ancient, where have you seen this address?

(IIRC IRLDb was updated after the server move, so this move should not be a problem. But maybe there is some strange configuration issue caused by the merge.)

At this page http://www.roguetemple.com/irldb/comm-info.php . Look under "logged in" link.

I think it's just this link which is incorrect... no relation to the actual problem. And everything seems to work correctly for me. Maybe Slash has some way to find out what's going on...

Still not working for me. I'm logged in to the forums, but when I go to the feedback pages in the database, I'm told I need to be logged in. Clicking on the link, I am taken to the login page for the forums, which greets me by name (showing I'm already logged in) as it shows me the log in form. Soo.... What up with that?

Slash seems not to be around... I'll try to see what's going on:

As I understand, the problem is that you are logged in correctly to the forum, but IRLDb does not know it.

What links are you using to forums and IRLDb? (I see how you could get the effect by using wrong links, although I don't know how you could get wrong links) It should be: forums, IRLDb (the link to IRLDb is directly to a comment page, so you can easily see whether you are logged in) Are you logged in in the first of these links and not logged in in the second one?

What browser are you using? Can you check if the problem remains in another browser?

Z, Slash, and others,
I get the following bug on Debian Squeeze, browsing with Epiphany (2.30.6-1): When I do a search, the search result shows up for just a few seconds, or less, before jumping to a page that just displays 10 random roguelikes. If I search for adom, for instance, the adress is thus: http://www.roguetemple.com/irldb/?inam=adom&idev=&ithm=&xbeta=on&xstable=on&xmajor=on&x7=on&xang=on&ilan=&iplat=&iint=&iinf=&ilic=&voting=on&comments=on&showtype=on&showupd=on&showthm=on&dform=f2

I'm logged in as agingminotaur in the database link you posted. If I use Firefox, this bug doesn't show up. I must say, it feels to me like the Epiphany browser has become a bit buggy in general (also with other sites).  :'(

Also: Should there be a login button on the database page?

As always,

I think that's because for some reason Epiphany thinks that you are submitting the form, while actually this is a non-submitting button which should just execute a JavaScript program. The JS program is called (and thus the search result is shown), but after some the page is reloaded (because the form has been submitted) and shows a random selection. I suppose that's a bug in Epiphany indeed.

The login button is shown on the database page, although only in certain circumstances (results are shown and you have selected "my rating" or "my experience" columns). Yes, I think it would be more practical to always show it. Thanks!

Using those links, I'm logged in at both. But using the link to the database from the roguetemple.com main page, I'm not logged in to the database. The difference seems to be that the main page link includes a leading www subdomain. Maybe that link needs updating?

And, yes, this is true from multiple browsers on multiple computers (laptop, home, and work). Looks like we've got this figured out, but fixing it is in your hands.

OK. Apparently your browser thinks that "www.roguetemple.com" and "roguetemple.com" belong to different domains and thus does not allow www.r.t to see cookies from r.t. Hopefully will be fixed soon :)

I forgot to tell you, but these problems should be fixed now (also those mentioned by AgingMinotaur).
