Looking for Rougelike that uses mouse
« on: December 08, 2007, 11:02:17 PM »
Hi. I'm new.  ;D

Anyhoo, I use a laptop. Recently, the left arrow broke on it, and there's no num-pad (well, actually, there IS, but it's kinda a pain to use.)

The only one I can think of I think of is Vulture's Eye. It doesn't matter if it's not all mouse-based. Just using it to move around and use the keyboard to use commands will be fine with me. Thanks!

Laptops, the roguelike's bane!

I vouch that when I make a roguelike, it will be fully laptop friendly!

Of course this isn't influenced by the fact that I use a laptop at all times.

The right arrow on my laptop is permanently down, and it's practically to the point where you only need to breathe on it for it to actually press down :P Also, doing diagonals on these keyboards suck! I end up using the normal number line 1234567890 for moving diagonally. Why no support wasd style keys?

I'd recommend searching specifically for "graphical" roguelikes, since they're much more likely to have mouse-support. Also, Crawl is really nice with its auto-explore & greedy-pickup features. You only need to use the keyboard in situations where you need to ponder your next move... doesn't make much of a difference then.

Oh man. You do that and I'll love you as much as a heterosexual male possibly can.
There's also Ragnarok, but I didn't like it that much because it was all forests with no dungeons. Unless I didn't get far enough... There was also a futuristic one named JauntTrooper (futuristic too... I love stuff like that!) but it was way too hard.
And if I remember right, I think Kharne had that too. Boy I wish they finish that.

If anybody else finds one, let me know as soon as you can!

CastlevaniaRL has a mouse mode option, which I think is currently disabled by default. It is experimental, but should work.

Just edit the slash-barrett.ui file and change useMouse to true

Let me know how it works :)

This wont probably make you happy, but Kaduria has mouse walk. And mouse look on the right button. Funny thing is that I don't use them myself.. I'm probably too old school for that.

Not really on topic, but why is it so hard for newcomers to spell "rogue"?

First nine screens of Ragnarok are in forest, then you go to the dungeon which contains 26 levels in total (including some special places, except bazaar; somewhere on the way you also visit Slaeter's Sea). Then several surface screens, and a deep dungeon again. In general, a part of game happens on surface (possibly surface of other planes, e.g. Niflheim, land of dead), and a part happens in dungeons.

What's so fun in dungeons? I find forests in Ragnarok well done, quite original and fun.

I guess english speaking people often make spelling mistakes like that, because they pronounce words different way than they are written. Rogue is pronounced "roug" I guess.. so it becomes rouge.

Oops. Sorry. I misspell Rogue (is that right?) all the time. I'll try to do better from now on.  :P
