Baldrick's Tomb, a Roguelike Board Game
« on: March 05, 2013, 08:38:06 PM »
Hello everyone,

I'm new here (this is my first post), but I've been a big fan of roguelikes for a while. Specifcally, I'm most fond of graphical roguelikes like Chunsoft's Mystery Dungeon series (Shiren the Wanderer, Torneko).

Anyway, in February of 2012, I got a little idea in my head that it might be fun to make a roguelike of my own. However, as this idea was seriously hampered by my inability to develop a game or program in the slightest, I instead set my sights on a board game. Long story short, about a year later the game has been picked up by a small publisher by the name of 5th Street Games.

It has been an interesting challenge, trying to find a happy medium between the trappings that make roguelikes unique and what makes a competitive board game fun. But I've had a year now to really tighten things up and I'm happy with the results. The game is called Baldrick's Tomb, and it has four heroes traveling down to the bottom of cursed dungeon, where the insides are forever churning and rearranging. True to roguelikes, the contents of everything are a mystery, and randomly generated. You will fight monsters, trigger traps, but also use powerful scrolls and find gobs & gobs of treasure.

Currently, Baldrick's Tomb is on Kickstarter. I'd be honored if any of you would be willing to take a look at it, and if it seems like something you might be interested in, I hope you might consider backing it:

Dude I love it. Legend and I have both made table top Roguelikes.

Many would say that they aren't really roguelikes, but if you play one you definitely scratch that itch. With multiple players! As I age I more and more use gaming as a social experience. A reason to get together with friends and relatives.

Whaa... no way! Are they online anywhere? I'd love to see what they looks like!

BTW, for everyone, I noticed a few new backers shortly after I posted the original message. I'm not sure if any/all of them came from here, but if they did, thanks a million. You're not only making my day, but also making this game a reality.

I'd help if I could, but I'm broke :P

Love the images though, especially the mimic ("Treasure elemental"? hehe)

Hey, Nymphaea, that's cool--just send some good vibes our way!  ;D

Glad you like the Mimic, that's one of my faves too! And I've never seen one quite ike hat, where the treasure is actually part of the body. Creepy!
