Dungeon Crawl: Stone Soup was one of the Roguelikes I particularly enjoyed.

Well, in any event, it's a beautiful tileset.

This sounds very nice!

I like listening to Megaman themes or Cave Story themes. Sometimes I pull up DF and listen to the main theme while playing other RLs

Design / Re: What does roguelikelike mean?

For me, the things that make a game a rougelike are turn-based combat, high levels of interactivity with the world, permadeath, and a general focus on gameplay over story.

Also, I'm pretty sure that this topic has been done before.

Design / Re: Roguelikes with infrequent, dangerous and interesting combat

I guess Dwart Fortress might be a place to look also, although I'm ashamed to say I've yet to play it.

Oh yeah, Dwarf Fortress has infrequent and dangerous combat.  I dunno if you'd count it as interesting or not.  It isn't very deep but it's unique.
What it may lack in depth it makes up for in sheer hilarity.

So what did we learn? That the Noxico bot voted faster/longer than the TOME/ADOM bots. ;)

I assume since it won the ASCII Dreams poll we can expect an episode on Noxico soon?
That would be nice...     <-Sarcasm

Alright! I derailed a thread!

Development Process & non-technical / Re: Plans for 2014
« on: January 05, 2014, 04:42:57 PM »
Well, I don't have any plans this year other than the usual boring fare. Maybe I'll do a bit more coding than last year. I do plan to spend a lot of my free time roaming the Dungeons of Doom.

This seems pretty interesting! I think I'll give this a try.

Went digging through my games folder today and found saves for Open TTD. A very good remake of the classic game. I should start playing that again.

You guys seem to like life sims, so here's a cellular automata simulator. It handles bounded and unbounded universes, can calculate generations at insane speeds, and can handle 256 cell states. And it's open source! Golly.
