Player's Plaza / So the wikipedia page lists roguelites as roguelikes
« on: June 16, 2019, 09:05:39 PM »
Another anon roguelike fan and I are trying to inform wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roguelike https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Roguelike) that roguelites are not roguelikes given that they are not seen as such by areas dedicated to roguelikes such as here, reddit, roguebasin, the IRLDB etc. Can I get any help with this, either in references or in backup?  :P

Programming / newbie asking for help
« on: October 01, 2011, 06:34:46 AM »
i want to create a roguelike as i have a few ideas for one(and a complete theoreticall "near freeform" spell system for said roguelike), i decided on using python and libtcod and as i have no programming skills, i am using this tutorial
http://roguebasin.roguelikedevelopment.org/index.php/Complete_Roguelike_Tutorial,_using_python%2Blibtcod but this tutorial doesnt seem explanitory enough, and it just makes me feel like im copying and pasting code, is there a better tutorial, or could someone explain some of the lines of code, and what they do in more detail,
im just in the first part, just finished character movement, but an explaination from start would be better, thanks in advance for either a better tutorial, or a better explination of this one

Other Announcements / newbie asking for tutorials
« on: September 29, 2011, 06:18:33 AM »
i am wanting tutorials for a coding language that is easy to learn, that will build up my coding skills from nothing to able to make a roguelike, im not asking for a dummies guide for roguelike coding before some of you state such a thing doesnt exist, im wanting an easy to learn coding language and tutorials to build me up to making a roguelike, that said, ive heard from some people who do coding that python isnt too hard to learn/understand, but im looking for the easiest language to learn whilst still being able to make a roguelike later on(ive got a few base ideas for my rl atm but not much)

Other Announcements / lycanthopy in roguelikes
« on: September 28, 2011, 03:40:47 AM »
im going to try and compile a list of roguelikes where lycanthropy(werewolf disease)
occurs, and im also going to comment on it if i have played a werewolf in that game
nethack/nethack variants(very rare in my experience, possible start race for SLASH'EM, lycanthropy is a MAJOR drawback with no benifits worth mentioning)
iter van ad necem(not too rare, not annoyingly common, well balanced)
ragnarock/valhalla(ive had the "lycanthropy" intristic, didnt seem to do anything, anyone able to shed some light there)
anyone got anything else?
