Early Dev / Re: Fief: the Medieval Manor Simulation (WIP)

I like what I see, however, the game seems to freeze up totally and then crash whenever I resume an unfinished project. It's making progress...difficult.

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn-based) / Warp Rogue?

Hello all,

I know the developer of Warp Rogue has removed their material from the internet, but...does anyone have a copy of the exe floating around? I'd love to do a Let's Play of this great old awesome (and dead) game sometime.

Graduate student in theatre. I have an assistantship so it's basically a full time gig.

I'm in grad school, so I'm lucky to be home by 11 most nights. Once every couple weeks I'm not back until 3 or 4. A lot of the other students just spend the night at school when that happens but I always walk home for my sanity's sake.

I'd love to. I had never heard of your game until I saw it on the release wire here, so that had something to do with my silence.

Also: I do like the skill tree and you do need to change the way ranged combat works. TAB to select a target and Space to fire is the only non-intuitive thing you've got going. F for "fire" and then the arrow keys to move your targeting around (or TAB to cycle targets) would feel better.

Other Announcements / Re: [REQ]Roguelike programming for dummies...

Roguelike or game programming is not for dummies. At least you need to actively search for information yourself. Sometimes I feel young people can't do anything without a tutorial..

That's kind of harsh. Programming isn't a question of just being intelligent or mastering the syntax, it's mostly a game of patience and having an eye for detail. I didn't possess those last two, that's why I got out.

Anyway, I know there's "for dummies" books on just about every subject. I wouldn't be surprised if Python was included. A lot of people work in C++ or C#, I believe, so those might be good to check out. C# I remember as being pretty easy to pick up and a flexible language.

Depending on how much time and money you want to invest in this, you might also check out if your local or community college offers programming classes. Who knows, someone might let you make a RL as a project.

Traditional Roguelikes (Turn-based) / Lords of Darkhall

Has anyone played this RL besides me? It was featured on the front page a couple weeks ago and I've really enjoyed it since then. Attempts to contact the author have met with no success.

I'm wondering if it's still indev, despite the warning that he's letting the project die. I thought it showed a lot of potential and I really enjoyed its accessibility.

Why not just make a DukeNukum RL?

DoomRL is probably my favorite, but I also enjoy Drash, Scrap, SewerJacks, and Frozen Depths quite a bit. Oh, and Warp.

Well, I suspect if I keep losing at a roguelike that's lack of experience on my part. The game's mostly pretty good. I would like some sort of choice of equipment package at start though, though that's a matter of personal preference that I can easily dispense with.

They could use levels. It would be better.
