Other Announcements / Re: ROTY advertisement fairness

I didn't even realize there were advertisements.

This year, I voted for ToME (because it's awesome), Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup and DoomRL.

It was interesting to see the massive resurgence in ADOM and it's definitely on my to-play list.

This is a preliminary list of what I'm including on the discs.

I've also created a facebook page here if you'd like to support the project.

I'm working with Games for Soldiers (www.gamesforsoldiers.com) and hopefully some other organizations on compiling a DVD collection of DRM-free, freely distributable freeware pc games for deployed troops.  I'm trying to compile a hand-picked collection of the best games that money can't buy.  These games would be tailored to play on lower end computers/laptops, not requiring the latest and greatest CPU/GPU to play and not requiring an internet connection to play or install.

I'm working on compiling the collection, including faqs/guides/instructions with the games.  Once I've finished compiling it my intention is to send these DVDs out to organizations like Games for Soldiers who will in turn distribute them to deployed troops.

I've been there myself (deployed to Iraq twice) and if you have internet at all you're lucky and it's nice to have something to play in those rare occurrences when you do get spare time.

Of course, I'll be including some Roguelikes.  If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for games to include (not just roguelikes) hit me up!  Just comment below!

You can also read/comment about it here:

They're all tradeable items except for the game code for Binding of Isaac, which you can trade...but just not officially as an actual Steam item.

The Roguelike (RGLK) Community Group on Steam is giving away 3 free Steam games for the holidays!  How do I know?  Because I'm the one giving them away!

The games are "Hack, Slash, Loot" (item), "Dungeons of Dredmor" (item) and "The Binding of Isaac+Wrath of the Lamb DLC" (redeemable code).

All you have to do to win, is have a Steam account (register for free), join the group and wait for Christmas!

http://steamcommunity.com/groups/roguelike

Winners will be drawn randomly.  If you have a preference, put it on your wishlist!  If you already own all these games, you'll be skipped and another number will be drawn.

Aside from that benefits include announcements, discussions, events and contests related to Roguelike-ry as well as a community of players who share a similar love of exploring dungeons and being killed by that horse on the 7th floor when I tried to feed it an apple!  Seriously, what's up with that?

I'm not making any money or raking advertising dollars in off this so the only thing I have to gain is more souls to offer up to Huan Ti in my continuing search for the Amulet of- I mean nothing...absolutely nothing to gain...at all.

« on: December 24, 2012, 05:25:13 PM »
Sorry guys, my bad - I did send Kraflab a PM to say thanks, and I intentionally waited a week before I tried the key so I figured nobody else wanted it.

To atone for my terrible lameness: I have a spare copy of Civ 5 on my Steam from when I pre-ordered XCOM.  I already offered it to Kraflab as a thankyou, but since he doesn't want it I'll open the offer to all.  (PM me your e-mail or Steam ID and I'll gift it to you.)

I would claim it...because I love free stuff in general but I've got a buttload of Steam games so I'll defer to some less fortunate soul...plus...I never finished Civ 2. <_<

I didn't realize I could pick multiple RLs until after I voted (for TOME)...dammit! >_<

Aw, c'mon guys.  If you're gonna redeem the key at least say thanks and let everyone know it's been claimed. :P

I think there's a couple party-based roguelikes that will come out of this year's 7DRL from the looks of it.

@XLambda:

Oh hey, I forgot to add: Working Title for the game idea I had, 7DRLRL. :P

/obvious

Of course, you're free to call it whatever you want.

If you're throwing in to the 7DRL, they're asking contestants to add their game entry here:
http://roguebasin.roguelikedevelopment.org/index.php/7DRL_Contest_2012

You can register an account at 7DRL.org and make your own blog post too if you like.  Should get some laughs.

So can you only kill them by bumping from one of the northerly directions or by fireball?  Could produce some interesting gameplay, that  :)

It works like a standard roguelike, you move towards an enemy to attack them.  If you have fire flower (active for limited amount of turns) then you can attack using a throw/fire like mechanic.  Star power will give you limited invincibility for a limited number of turns as well.

@El Barto:  There could be pipes for hidden areas but for now, I'm probably just going to stick to up and down stairs type.  We'll see how much progress I make this week.

The second pipe in the screenshot at the bottom of page 3 is in view, outside Mario's view range for debugging purposes btw.

Ha!  Nice one!  I look forward to playing it sir! :P

I was almost going to do it myself but I went with the Mario themed thing instead on a whim.
Here's my wip so far, actual screenshot (not another mock).
