Off-topic (Locked) / Games for Soldiers: Looking for Ideas
« on: January 06, 2013, 12:52:45 AM »
I'm working with Games for Soldiers (www.gamesforsoldiers.com) and hopefully some other organizations on compiling a DVD collection of DRM-free, freely distributable freeware pc games for deployed troops.  I'm trying to compile a hand-picked collection of the best games that money can't buy.  These games would be tailored to play on lower end computers/laptops, not requiring the latest and greatest CPU/GPU to play and not requiring an internet connection to play or install.

I'm working on compiling the collection, including faqs/guides/instructions with the games.  Once I've finished compiling it my intention is to send these DVDs out to organizations like Games for Soldiers who will in turn distribute them to deployed troops.

I've been there myself (deployed to Iraq twice) and if you have internet at all you're lucky and it's nice to have something to play in those rare occurrences when you do get spare time.

Of course, I'll be including some Roguelikes.  If anyone has any ideas or suggestions for games to include (not just roguelikes) hit me up!  Just comment below!

Off-topic (Locked) / Free Roguelike Giveaways for the Holidays!
« on: December 24, 2012, 05:44:30 PM »
The Roguelike (RGLK) Community Group on Steam is giving away 3 free Steam games for the holidays!  How do I know?  Because I'm the one giving them away!

The games are "Hack, Slash, Loot" (item), "Dungeons of Dredmor" (item) and "The Binding of Isaac+Wrath of the Lamb DLC" (redeemable code).

All you have to do to win, is have a Steam account (register for free), join the group and wait for Christmas!

Winners will be drawn randomly.  If you have a preference, put it on your wishlist!  If you already own all these games, you'll be skipped and another number will be drawn.

Aside from that benefits include announcements, discussions, events and contests related to Roguelike-ry as well as a community of players who share a similar love of exploring dungeons and being killed by that horse on the 7th floor when I tried to feed it an apple!  Seriously, what's up with that?

I'm not making any money or raking advertising dollars in off this so the only thing I have to gain is more souls to offer up to Huan Ti in my continuing search for the Amulet of- I mean nothing...absolutely nothing to gain...at all.

Other Announcements / Share your ideas for 7DRL
« on: March 01, 2012, 09:48:53 PM »
Got any fanciful, hopeful, outrageous, outlandish, serious or silly ideas for 7DRL?

I'll start.  Here's mine, a Roguelike based on the original Rogue...Sarah Palin!

You play the role of Sarah Palin, who must embark on a fantastic quest for relevancy and attention.  Battle hordes of liberals, lame stream media, political pundits and Gotcha Goblins as you descend deeper into the depths of madness!

Here's a mockup of the title screen:

Off-topic (Locked) / Played weird Roguelike in my dreams last night...
« on: February 28, 2012, 08:22:12 PM »
Last night I had this weird dream were I was playing a Roguelike called Aynrand (Angband).  It was this dungeon crawler based pretty much on Ayn Rand's novel, "Atlas Shrugged".  It was set in the 1950s eras, where you could pick from various classes of suit-wearing, cigar-puffing, (Penguin-like) business tycoons wandering through randomly generated city streets and industrial settings beating down poor factory workers and picking up stacks of dollar bills instead of gold.

I swear I'm not making this up.  Don't ask me how this crept into my subconscious, I don't know.  I've never even read Atlas Shrugged but the basic premise is a 1950s society where the government is waging war on the poor business elite of the world by taxing and regulating them.  To fight back, a group of CEOs go on strike and refuse to share their "genius" with the world.

Atlas Shrugged has been brought up in modern parallels and there was a movie made recently as well.  But IMHO, the fallacy of Atlas Shrugged when comparing it to modern day is in Atlas Shrugged the government sought to control industry.  Today, you have only to look inside the pockets of any politician to see that industry controls our government.

Anyway...my dreams aren't normally political commentary...maybe tomorrow night I can dream about just playing Spelunky or something.

P.S. Whaddya think?  Would it be worth making? :P
