Alternate color scheme for TotR Forums
« on: April 21, 2010, 01:10:30 PM »
As I'm getting older and older, I find the dark, black-and-blue color scheme of this forum harder to read.

Is there a way to enable users to choose another forum style, perhaps some white and silver or white/grey and blue?

W00t! Don't you know that "white letters on black background" is a middle value factor of roguelikeness?!

Yes, it is, but I agree with Mario (and I already wrote this in another thread) - The high contrast between the text and the background makes the forum hard to read, at least if one reads a lot.

I, too, would like a color scheme with a bit less contrast. On the plus side, this forum has a bit bigger text than many other forums, that is good already for the mole type people like me. (Mole = semi blind).

Well; yes... maybe i can point you guys to the stylish extension of firefox/google chrome? Since i'm not satisfied with the colors either i have already patched the site....

Edit:
Example; i know it doesn't look that good but for me its better to read:

Interesting -- and your forum is better to read than mine. I installed it and now I have to enter some code -- CSS code? Do I need to get the forums stylesheet and simply edit the parts I want to change, and put these parts into the "code" field of the extension?

How did you achieve your result?

Somewhere you can add a new style and apply a url-filter on it (e.g. starts with http://www.roguetemple.com/forums/), and in the code box you simply add the following:

body { background-color: #444444; }
td { background-color: #555555; }

Great! That worked! :-D

I use the following one for white background, black text and red links:

Code: [Select]

body { background-color: #FFFFFF; color: #000000; }
td { background-color: #FFFFFF; color: #000000; }
tr { background-color: #FFFFFF; color: #000000; }
a:link { color: #800000; }
a:visited { color: #800000; }

.smalltext { color: #000000; }
.windowbg2 { color: #000000; }

Well, ok... i copied yours and modified it a bit (i like it a bit darker, and modified quoted text and code)
Code: [Select]
body { background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #000000; }
td { background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #000000; }
tr { background-color: #f3f3f3; color: #000000; }
a:link { color: #800000; }
a:visited { color: #800000; }

.smalltext { color: #000000; }
.windowbg { color: #000000; }
.windowbg2 { color: #000000; }
.quote { background-color: #dddddd; color: #000000 }
.codeheader { color: #000000; }
.code { background-color: #dddddd; color: #000000 }
#top_subject { color: #000000; }
tr.titlebg td { color: #000000; }

Thanks for your much better style ;-)

edit:
a bunch of updates, too bad some elements are images...

Interesting!

I dont know what schema would be better than white over black... perhaps some gray would make a better background!

I really depends on the daytime and the surroundings of the user -- if it's bright in the room, because the sun is shining, white on black can be difficult to read (not to mention blue on black).
