I have been playing pen and paper rpgs since I was 10 (24 now), and they are great.  I have made some of my best and closest friends as a result of gaming.  The limitlessness of where you can go and what you can do with it is the best part, and is GREAT if you've gotten frustrated with arbitrary, unbreakable boundaries as you find in most PC and video games.  D&D is a good place to start, though you need an imaginitive DM and some other players who are not up-tight rules lawyers if you want to have fun with it.
