Roguelike set in Might and Magic universe?
« on: May 02, 2016, 05:49:06 PM »
I was recently thinking that roguelike set in the original Might and Magic universe would be awesome!
We have got roguelikes set in warhammer and warhammer 40k universe, in Lord of the Ring universe, and in many other universes I don't remember, so why not making a roguelike in this interesting universe where both magic and sci-fi technology exists.

I'm not familiar with Might and Magic myself, but it does seem like a fair candidate. Yes it's an owned IP but so are Middle Earth, Doom, Wheel of Time, Mega Man, etc. I imagine a little, free RL probably wouldn't be an issue.

One I'd like to see is Shadowrun. Not only is there a general dearth of cyberpunk roguelikes, Shadowrun is another example of a magic/sci-fi hybrid.

I really like the idea too!

If I remember correctly, Player controls a  group of heroes with minions and can upgrade both heroes and cities in order to conquer all game world. It's all turn based, right ?
I have found this good explanation of gameplay: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heroes_of_Might_and_Magic#Gameplay

There is also another series of games set in that universe which begined everything and they are:
Might and Magic: The Secret of the Inner Sanctum
Might and Magic II: Gates to Another World
Might and Magic III: Isles of Terra
Might and Magic IV: Clouds of Xeen
Might and Magic V: Darkside of Xeen
Might and Magic: World of Xeen
Might and Magic VI: The Mandate of Heaven
Might and Magic VII: For Blood and Honor
Might and Magic VIII: Day of the Destroyer
Might and Magic IX
Might and Magic X: Legacy (not made by original company)

You basically play as a group of adventures who do quests, kill monsters and other RPG stuff.
But in there you don't have castles and it's turn based only in combat.
There was also MUCH more epic plot than in heroes of might and magic.
The story in I-V is basically about trying to stop the rampage of Sheltem who turns out to be an android created by the Ancients (a technologically advanced race). He escapes at the endgames but is finally destroyed in world of Xeen.

There was one about orkz form 40k it was short and simple but pretty enjoyable (I don't remember the name unfortunately).

I don't know about normal warhammer but there proroably was one.

Thought of a proper, W40K based roguelike has me salivating. Can you imagine better setting than a Space Hulk?

*goes back to playing Battlefield Gothic: Armada ;)*

There's also Warp Rogue, though I believe it's unfinished.

Yep probably the closest 40k inspired RL I know. Was a good effort, but copx lost his passion. Too bad nobody else picked it up, ah i remember now, it was written in C! I looked at the code and scared the bejesus out of me :)  I believe he removed his game from that internet thing.
(Although I actually preferred the game when it was called Tower of Doom, but he deleted that too.)

Yes, I think so. I still have it though.  ;D

Tower of Doom is new to me.
