Hello all!
« on: March 04, 2016, 10:43:59 AM »
Hello everyone, just wanted to drop a line and say hello!

I am going to participate in 7drl! First roguelike, first time I need to generate dungeons, first time a lot of stuff :)

I need something with a deadline to force myself to finish!

Small question, do you need to register your game before tomorrow? (I still have not thought of the name :( )
I intend to start full time work on Monday.

Hi!

I think you'll just need to register by the end (March 13). Usually the registration opens about this time, but I haven't heard anything yet.

Welcome and good luck.

Hi!

Don't worry too much about the name. The more important thing is getting the game done. :)

Beginner's advice: do as much prep as you can before the week itself. Consider using some pre-existing tools like the T-Engine.

Ideally you want to spend as much the week as possible making the game what you want it to be, not grappling with coding line of sight and that sort of thing.

Would it be better to register the game only when it's finished? That way we could cut down the amount of unfinished games making this contest so difficult to follow.

I think all the unfinished games are definitely a part of the whole 7drl jam. Some individuals might hold off registering, and only announcing in they feel content with the result. But I'm also sure many people (myself included) enjoy the scattered devlogs and such that abound during the week. Even if you don't follow the jam so closely, you can always pick up which games got some interesting attention, good reviews, etc. afterwards. And some of the failures can really be as interesting as some of the successes.

As always,

Knowing how many failed is interesting to see.
