Would love to hear your feedback and suggestions.

Since I last posted there have been a number of improvements:

- auto-pickup for gold
- teleport control now allows you to teleport to a square you haven't been to before.
- character button is green on the launch screen if there is a save file.
- journal messages for karma changes
- better feedback when targeting squares.
- zoom in and out using: pinch-and-zoom or mouse wheel or plus&minus keys
- you can hide the green menu buttons by pressing Escape key until everything is hidden.
- wand zap now bounces in corridors.
- icon is horizontal flipped as an attacking animation.
- puddings will multiply when hit with iron.
- gremlins will multiply in water traps.
- blue jelly and brown mold are healed by cold and will multiply.
- golems are affected by fire, shock and water.
- shops have a buy all and sell all button
- containers have a remove all and place all button
- all musical instruments can be played with effect
- zoos start with sleeping monsters
- noise will wake sleeping monsters
- stealth allows you to be more quiet
- lurkers, trappers and piercers will hide

Hail Adventurers,

The marquee feature for this release is the ability to play with up to six characters. You can enter the dungeon with a wizard and a barbarian, switch between the active character to use the full inventory and character sheets. Please note that having multiple characters does not make the game any easier. In fact, you have more mouths to feed and need to share experience and resources. I've improved the combat AI and your alternate characters will even eat when hungry. I hope you enjoy playing with a party of characters as much as I do.

The second marquee feature (I can totally have two marquees right?) is a brand new tileset called Sonyvanda. This is based on the Nevanda tileset originally made for Nethack. One dedicated artist has spent over nine months extending and enhancing to complete the required 1500+ tiles. This huge effort is remarkable and the new tileset is simply gorgeous.

A couple more notable mentions. The new fairy race is super fun to play. They start with the talent of 'blinking' which is important because they are tiny and can't kick in doors. Lastly, there is a new starting pet: the monkey. It's a pet like the others but it has hands! Just consider the possibilities...

The major change in this release is the separation of elemental resistances from regular talents. Resistances are now a percentage between 0% and 100%. You can still permanently increase your resistance by eating certain corpses. But instead of gaining perfect resistance, you will gain a random percentage. If you have 50% fire resistance and are hit by a fireball, the damage will be reduced by half. 100% resistance is zero damage.

We have a new dungeon branch called the Infernal Abyss. It can be reached via a rift portal on level 40. Watch your step, this is the domain of many powerful demons.

Consolidating on the previous release, there are more Sonyvanda player tiles and the multi-character AI has been improved.

Android players will also enjoy general performance improvements.

Major changes since the last public release:

For the Pratchett fans and for the first time in Nethack history: you can now play as Rincewind with a pet chest called Luggage!

Animated objects are the major new mechanic in this release. With either spell or wand, you can animate any item in the game. Ranged weapons will magically quiver ammunition so they can shoot. Weapons will dance in the corridors and armour will smash into your enemies. Potions crash and grenades detonate themselves on enemies.

I can also announce that is possible to run Pathos under Wine on Linux. Please note that this currently only works with software rendering. While rendering is slower than ideal, if your machine is relatively recent you may not notice any performance issues.

Major changes since the last public release:

    new mechanic: animated objects.
    new starting pet: rat.
    new punishment: midas touch.
    new block: gold boulder.
    new shrine: artistan (enchant and reforge your items).

Pathos can now be played on the Xbox One! Install from the Creative Collection in the Store.

The Xbox controller is bound to the following:

D-pad: 4 direction movement
Left-stick: move the pointer
Right-stick: scrolling lists and panning the map (only when all panels are closed)
A: primary pointer action (single and double tap)
B: back/escape
X: toggle map
Y: action/enter: default activation on your square
Menu: secondary pointer action (long-press)
Left/Right shoulder: custom quick actions
Left trigger: show labels (alt)
Right trigger: in combination with the D-pad you can shoot your equipped range weapon in a direction without moving (shift).

In this release there is a major redistribution of monster difficulty. The aim was to spread monsters more evenly over the 40 dungeon levels. Many of the monsters have been upgraded to be more powerful.

This version marks the 60th public release of Pathos! Over the four years of development, that's an average of about one release every month, phew.

The marquee feature is a new ambient sounds mechanic. Each map has an atmosphere: cavern, civilisation, dungeon, forest or nether. Ambient sound effects are played at random intervals, with a random variance in volume, panning and pitch. Cues from the nearby environment are mixed in with the ambient sounds, such as monster noises or a chime when there is an active shop on the level. This is the Pathos analogue of the Nethack message "You hear the chime of a cash register".

There are new environmental effects such as cold blasts turning water into ice. Fire turns ice into water and electricity in water will cause stunning. There is also a chance of slipping on ice, mitigated by your dexterity of course.

For all you numbers nerds, there are new conduct counters to track how you play. These count the number of times you have prayed, polymorphed, lifesaved, teleported, and 50 others.

Many quality of life improvements including new tiles to indicate locked doors and trapped chests. The character sheet now has an experience progress bar. For phone devices, you can no longer accidentally tap behind a menu. For all you late-game wizards, the casting panel can be filtered by school of magic.

Pathos has been translated into Japanese which brings the total to 10 supported languages. A lot of work has also gone into the maintenance of the translations for this release as well. Much thanks and appreciation to all translators, past and present, for their contributions to the project.

In the three months since the last public release there have been plenty of updates.

Pathos now has title music to set the mood and atmospheric music to tie the ambient sounds together.

Lances, polearms, spears and whips now have a reach attack. This means you can melee from one square further away, allowing for new combat strategies.

There is a new deafness mechanic with the corresponding earmuffs. When you meet the new banshee, you will wish that you cannot hear her wailing.

For utility and a bit of fun, the new porter bag can be used to capture a friend or foe. Later, you can release them from the bag but be warned that they are likely to mad at you.

Introducing two new player races: angel and demon. Angels are beautiful, otherworldly beings characterised by their signature halo and feathered wings. Strongly attuned to struggle between good and evil, they sense the divinity within anything they hold. Demons are perverse creatures of many aberrations but always with crimson skin and horns. Their mere presence compels others to act out their darkest, most violent desires.

The first release of 2020 is a major content upgrade!

There are six new classes: paladin, druid, gladiator, tinker, reaver and hunter.

The level cap has been increased to 40 and skills have been extended with the competency level of 'champion'. You can now train up to 2,000 points to become a champion in your field.

There are two new dungeon branches. The Labrynth branch is a tribute to the endgame of the original Hack game. The Lost Chambers branch is challenging portal puzzle that will test your strategy and sanity.

Many new mithril armaments have been added including swords, axes and shields. This offers an upgrade path for most starting weapons.

The classic tileset has had 100+ tiles upgraded thanks to the RLTiles project. It's great to see all the tilesets being enjoyed by players and this one was overdue some love.
