Infra Arcana makes really good use of color and even font in order portray a dark and foreboding atmosphere. I would check it out, if you haven't already,  to help get some ideas about color like you mentioned in your blog.

I really should, I think I tried it once, but it was a very long time ago.
I enjoy looking at other peoples roguelikes and seeing how they do things.
