Hi, so I thought I would finally try doing the 7DRL this year...last week when I realized it was starting today. I've set my expectations low because I'm also using this to learn rot.js...and to like, actually finish a game for a change. Which means, my main goal is to finish something. Whether it turns out good or bad, if I finish it, then it's a positive achievement and will be a healthy experience for me.
So, I don't really know what I'm aiming at, currently. Simple is key. If I have time to add flair, then that would be awesome, but flair will come after I have finished the game.
Cosmic Space Extravagance is the working title and an idea that has existed in many forms. It started out as a joke concept band I formed when I jokingly suggested the name for something. The original (back) story was written in 2009:
Formed on a cold December morning in the midst of the greatest ice storm ever. Our two heroes were trapped in a tin shack with no where to go but Hell. During their final moments a flash of light blinded them and they thought it was over. When they opened their eyes they were on some strange vessel in space. They know nothing of their saviours save for the note left behind: “It has begun. Make music.”
Our heroes have yet to leave that strange space vessel and are determined to fulfill the wishes of their mysterious and powerful saviours.
I recorded one song under the name of Cosmic Space Extravagance, and then as years passed I started imagining it as an epic space opera and I thought about that for...well, I'm still thinking about that. And most recently, I planned on turning it into a short FPP adventure game.
Which, when I planned the adventure game, I took CSE and distilled it down to a single incident from the grander story I've been developing over the years. Something short enough so that the goal was feasible, yet still captured the idea behind CSE.
Translating the adventure game plan to a roguelike should be easy and it should be something feasible to accomplish.
Rough plot: While exploring the galaxy, our Heroes start to pick up on their ship sensors some sort of transmission. Upon investigation and patching into the signal, they are overwhelmed by what, to them, sounds like a very melancholy song, so they pinpoint where this music is coming from and discover that the source is the once-Planet, Pluto. Sensing something is wrong, our Heroes land on Pluto and discover signs of life, human life. They are met with force and thus the adventure begins.
Anyway, long intro post ^^. We'll see how things go and goo luck to everyone else participating as well.
