Obtaining Dungeon X: Flesh Wounds (7DRL 2013)
« on: August 23, 2013, 03:55:06 PM »
This one seemed like a very promising 7DRL this year but has the curious arrangement of requiring that you email the dev (support@grimm-bros.com)
to get a copy. I've done this a couple of times but got no response.

Has anyone managed to get it? Is the dev around here and willing to share? Suggestions?

I'm slightly ashamed that my first post here is a begging post, but I've meaning to join for a while for more earnest roguelike discussion purposes anyway.

Some of the 7DRL judges have played it, and Game_Hunter has done an LP which you can watch. They might be able to furnish you with a copy.

Thanks for the suggestions. I know Game Hunter won't (his video is what brought the game to my attention and he says explicitly that he'll respect the dev's chosen method of distribution) but maybe I'll be able to get my hands on it from another source.

I don't want to be the old man stickler here, but I'm going to be. If they don't want you to play their game then the game doesn't deserve to get played.

There are a bunch of developers with good games that need feedback.

I'm not sure I'd call you the old man stickler for saying that.

I think I've still got a copy of it somewhere that I can send you if you really want (PM me your e-mail or something), but I seriously wouldn't bother if I were you.  The graphics are nice but the game itself is fairly basic and insipid.  There were a lot of much better 7DRLs this year whose devs don't make you jump through ridiculous hoops just to get a 'demo', so I would recommend you play one of those instead.

Mosaic is also very pretty, as is Quadrapus and Numeron's game, what was it called? Rogue City Rampage or something?

I've already played a large number of this year's 7DRLs but I'm a bit of a completionist. I just thought it was worth asking. You can say 'no' without criticising my wish to try the game.

It's not pointed at you Samildanach. It was more the developers of the game. It irked quite a few of us who were trying to review it. I finally just refused to play it.

I too am a bit of a completionist, I played every finished game except this one and I think 2 others I just couldn't ever get running.

Sorry, rough day and ensuing short temper. It does seem an unnecessary degree of fuss to ask of people who want to play. Games are presumably created to be played, after all.

7DRL was a wonderful discovery, mainly brought my attention by my chance discovery of Game Hunter's YouTube channel. All these bold, intriguing roguelikes...

7DRL's are great. Dungeon X though wasn't really meant as a 7DRL, it was essentially an early tech demo prototype done by a studio to get publicity on their upcoming product, which is why they took it private again. They feared that the community would rip off their art assets or something.

Their announcement thread was here:
http://forums.roguetemple.com/index.php?topic=3127.msg25875#msg25875

You can sorta see the reactions.

Wow Stark you really let 'em have it. Good on you. I was too embroiled in playing the real 7DRL's at the time to notice. I'd have flipped my lid...

To Samil: You're good man. We did bring a bit of unwarranted negativity to your thread. This shit just rubbed us wrong. In a field with an open source, single dev and/or hobby bent this sort of thing was irritating.
