Is there a roguelike in which you play ...
« on: June 03, 2013, 06:34:24 PM »
... the role of an "evil cursed artifact" waiting to be picked up by clueless adventurers, and then corrupt your wearer and make him do your bidding (e.g. take the artifact back to its true master or similar)?

Yes, the idea would be blatantly borrowed from LotR, with "you" playing the role of the ring (or a similar artefact).  ;D

Permadeath would occur if the adventurer managed to destroy the artifact. If the wearer gets killed, you'd just have to wait for someone else to pick up the artifact (and possibly move it a bit closer to the point where it can be destroyed) and resume the task.

Is there a RL with this general idea?

More bloodthirsty than evil, but http://www.zincland.com/7drl/sword/

Ohh ... that's so close it's almost perfect. I'll give it a try.

It's a pretty solid game. I really liked it.

I tried that and it's really similar to rogue.

I was disappointed that it didn't do more with the concept.  Mechanically, it's a fairly basic roguelike.

Yeah I know.  I'm not saying the developer owes me the game I want or anything like that.

It's just that the concept is interesting and I'd like to see more done with it, you know?

Oh yeah dude, sometimes I check out a 7DRL and even if it's complete I get the feeling there's a TON more that could be done.
