Hello everyone,

due to organizational problems and me completely messing up the start of this, we're extending the Call for Submissions to July 1st. Originally, we scheduled the publication of issue one for the beginning of June, which made the deadline ridiculously short. (wtf was I even thinking.) This way, we're getting a bit more flexibility, while still being able to deliver the Fall 2013 issue on time.

If you would like to submit an article to the magazine, please read the Submissions page and contact me at your earliest convenience.

Hi XLambda,

How is this going?

Currently not at all. It's probably due to me screwing this up rather badly, but there has been exactly one contribution since this started. I've basically decided to let the planned summer issue die in peace. We'll see whether there will be enough material for a fall or winter issue, but right now I don't have much hope.

I don't think you screwed anything up, apart from the early deadline, which you promptly fixed. I think it's just that writing an article is much more intimidating to people than just posting on a discussion forum like this one, because it implies that the person writing is an "expert" in some fashion, and is thus expected to have superior knowledge to instill upon the masses...

Is there anything wrong with having an on-going submissions process, and whenever there's enough stuff, you pack it up into magazine format and start anew?

That's a shame - the reason that I was asking was because I was thinking of submitting something, but was aware that the deadline for the first issue had already passed.  There may be others like me who are interested in submitting but take a while to get their arse in gear.

Did you not have any luck soliciting contributions from the usual community loudmouths?

Feel free to submit - I have an interview lined up for the fall, and an article I wrote, so if I could get one more person to jump in, things don't look too horribly bad.

I wanted to, and actually contacted a few people, but at some point completely forgot about it. I'll continue to try.

When you have found writers you need to remind them constantly by sending spam mail. Someone has to be the boss or people just wonder what is happening.

Yes. And don't get discouraged if they don't reply. Just keep spamming them until they eventually send you a finished article. At least this is how it would work in my case ;).

There have also been some great blog posts that could be included in your magazine. Contact the blogger, ask if you can print the blog post and have a link to their blog. So you could get more material in a sort of 'digest' manner.

It wouldn't be all original material though...

BTW aren't I one of the loudmouths? :-)

Hello folks,

I'm sorry to say that I won't be able to continue this project in the near future. As a result of recent real-life events I simply don't have the necessary time and energy any more.

If anyone wants to continue working on this, please let me know. I'll send you the stuff I have. It's not much, but it's better than starting from scratch.

As a final note, thanks for all the good advice and offers made by community members. I really appreciated your support. :)
