The goal of this program, that I call advASCIIdraw, is to make drawing ASCII images, and especially roguelike/dungeon crawler type environments, as easy to create as possible.

It's light-weight and enables anyone to make cool ASCII art in no time, by providing tools similar to other popular painting programs, but especially adapted for ASCII.

It has many cool features, the biggest things right now being:

    -Advanced Brush
-Draw ASCII images like you are used to in other drawing programs, includes options like brush size, shape, fill rate..
    -Layers
No good drawing program without layers!
    -Presets
-Define your own brushes consisting of multiple characters and/or colours. No need to draw your blades of grass individually, anymore!
    -Huge Canvas
-Thousands of characters across, you can make HUGE ASCII images.(And no worries, save file compression keeps your files small!)
    -Custom Charsets/Tilesets and Colour Palettes
-Easily add your own charsets and palettes to customise your images! Also add and edit colour palettes with just a few clicks right in the program!

Essentially, a souped up successor of sorts to ASCIIdraw that just had both the first public release and update based on folks giving feedback----bound to come in handy for some folks especially if the dev pace and feature gain can continue!

This looks fantastic.  I don't know what I'd use it for, yet, but I'll try to think of something!

Perhaps prototype a user interface.

Well, yes, or design splash screens.

Thank you getter77 for promoting advASCIIdraw over here!
And thank you all for the positive feedback.

It would be awesome if my program would be useful to some of you guys, for creating any kind of (concept) art for your games or other things.

If any of you think that the program is missing any features, let me know and I will do my best to accommodate!

I kinda had this dream of it possibly even being used as a level editor for roguelike games at some point. Maybe that really is just a dream, but if anyone thinks that that is a cool idea, let me know!

Oh yeah, also I just put out the second update:
advASCIIdraw now includes super easy PNG export.

Unfortunately, that will probably be the last update for a couple of weeks, but I will certainly be back and let you guys know when the next update is done.
Feel free to share ideas and suggestions, they might just make it into the program!

I know I am kinda necro-ing this topic, but I did say I was going to post, and maybe what I got is of interest to some of you here.
If not, feel free to let the thread die again. ;)

Recently, someone requested that I add .txt export to advASCIIdraw, so I did.
One can now export a layer or selected part of a layer directly to a text file and then use that as input for other programs, or for whatever other purposes one likes.

Link for people that are too busy to scroll up: http://amulware.net/advASCIIdraw/

Maybe this is interesting so some of you here, in case you are looking for an ASCII level editor for one of your own games.

Again, feel free to let me know what you think.
Either way I promise I won't reanimate the thread a second time.

I actually tried this out ages ago as a defacto map editor but because I save the maps in text files it wasn't what I needed, but this update changes that. I'll definitely give it another go.

You should have let me know! :)

There is nothing more awesome then adding features that are useful to users. ;)

Though I admit, I do not have a lot of time these days.
But in case something else is needed, I will do my best.

Glad you will give it another try and hope it works out!

Always fine to post in a thread to update about a new release and/or improvements!   8)
