QuickHack 1.1.8
« on: July 12, 2012, 03:11:38 PM »
Let me just start by saying you guys are awesome.  I wasn't planning on doing any more work on QuickHack, but the community has been very positive and supportive, so I'll polish it a bit.  I haven't quite finished the saving yet, but that'll be in 1.2.x.

https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B6oeeUZo0SLSR0lRSVVIbGJPRW8

Version 1.1.8 Includes:
* Full screen/window resizing support
* Visual feedback when equipping items and leveling up
* Greater item variety available at start, items renamed to reduce confusion
* Two new enemy types
* Smarter AI (sorry; there's enough ranged guys now they had to stop shooting their friends . . . )

Thanks for all your support, and please let me know what you think!

Changelog looks neat. Great to see, you included some suggestions. Will try as soon as I find some more free time. :)
Also looking forward to the saving feature. I can see this game escorting me through many "not-at-home-and-therefore-only-having-a-sh*tty-netbook-with-me-times" in the future.  ;)

Edit: Another thing I forgot to mention, that came to my mind while playing the last version already: Perhaps gold should be auto-pickup? The problem being that it takes a turn, but it would feel much more fluid just to "run over it" to get it, really. Who doesn't want to pick it all up, anyways. Don't know if it should just be picked up without taking a turn or something. Might be quite a controversial suggestion.

Wonderful! I especially like the fullscreen function. Were you able to squish out that "summon a spirit on an enemy tile" bug?

On a first note item variety (and naming) really seems to have improved. Already had some rather tough decisions to make there. Nice! :)

@FlyingShisno: I wasn't able to really make any progress this morning; I just JARed up what I had and posted.  I have since fixed that bug; snag version 1.1.9 at https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B6oeeUZo0SLSUUJRSExvMm1QYzA.

@Nachtfischer:  Well, I originally wanted gold to work like any other item, because it is just like any other item.  But then I got to thinking, and gold is used exclusively as a score keeping device, so why not?  So, good suggestion; I put that in 1.1.9.

Very nice. Pretty fun quick crawl. Some simple sound fx seem like they would be very fitting.

  Hey  man I haven't tried the new release yet but I want to send a message of encouragement anyway.

  Making a roguelike is great. It's not about being the super greatest uber awesome programmer. You need to know quite a bit, sure, but it's one of those fields where creativity can really shine.

  You shine. Congrats.

  You aren't going to make money. You aren't going to be famous. But if you make a good roguelike there are going to be a few that love you forever.

  Welcome. There's at least one internet nerd who wishes he had done what you've done.

PS: Was that too much? Fuck it. You know you're jealous of this guy.

Any info about what this game is? First time I hear of quickhack. Is it a variant of the old roguelike "hack"?

I guess it has not too much to do with it (except the name and being of the same genre). It's just a new coffeebreak roguelike with quite focused design and nice and fluid gameplay mechanics. :)
