Lips of Suna is a tongue-in-cheek dungeon crawl game that takes place in the chaotic dungeons of Suna. The five intelligent races of the world descend to the dungeons with their goal to save the world from a conclusive disaster.

In your journey to the depths of the dungeons, you will, among other things, have to fight creatures of different varieties, solve quests, explore new places, and craft custom items. Luckily you don't need to do all this alone since you can crawl the dungeons with your friends.

Features
-Hardcore Content

-Experience what chaos really means. Witness blood and gore, crude humor and nudity.
Custom Skill System

-Develop your character with extreme depth by creating skills with a variety of effects.
Versatile Crafting

-All the objects in-game can be craftable, using the materials you mine and harvest.
Random Map Generation

-No game is ever the same, with random areas to explore and creatures to encounter.
Dynamic Terrain

-Destroy terrain, mine ores, build buildings, sky's the limit!
Quests and Special Areas

-Experience an epic quest line, NPC dialog, and several special areas polished by hand.
Ease of Extensibility

-Gameplay and content is easy to add, so if you feel there's something missing, add it in!

For those of you who have been following the project, LoS has had monthly releases since January. This summer we skipped a release month, but never stopped working, so there’s a whole bunch of goodies in this XXL release-bag.

If you look at our forums, you’ll see some feedback posts. Most of those points has been addressed. Of course, this is only possible because of the relatively small amount of requests, so, seriously, play the game, and leave feedback, and we will tackle it.

Some snippets of what we’ve added:

    * New starting area with tutorial quests.
    * New melee combat system with multiple attack moves.
    * New NPC dialog system.
    * Worksafe graphics mode.
    * More flexible character creation.
    * Improved player model.
    * Improved character physics.
    * Improvements to existing quests and work on some new quests.
    * Simple map screen and location discovery.
    * Options for mouse inverting and disabling mouse smoothing.
    * Better character animation when moving and attacking simultaneously.
    * New books: Arura Research Diary, The Sealed Library.
    * New items: halberd, spear, cure disease potion, etc.
    * New spells: home, magic missile.

The list really doesn’t do justice to the difference there is in gameplay, it’s tonnes faster and more action packed, all we’re lacking is content. So any quest writers or mappers or character modelers, please step up, pop in our IRC channel or forums, and we’ll reign you in to contribute further to the most complete 3d first person open source RPG out there

If the release pace continues with this level of potency, even the somewhat more staggered than usual one of this time around----this should indeed become "a thing" of some noteworthiness.  As it is still in Alpha, open source, and Win/Linux with some Mac stuff aiming to be conjured up, it is also rather malleable in terms of direction methinks.

Fuck yeah let's download this!

I can't seem to run it...but I saw a rather nasty list of programs needed in the readme.  Are all of these (Python, Bullet, ENet, Lua, SQLite, SDL, SDL_ttf, GLEW, OpenGL, OpenAL, libogg, libvorbis, and libflac) required to play the game, or just to compile it?

v0.6.0  to hopefully liven things up substantially

Lips of Suna 0.6.0 has been released. Grab the downloads from the project website and take a look at some of the 26 new screenshots in there. An updated video of the game will be released once I get my recording setup fixed.

Feel free to post feedback and discuss the release in this thread. In particular, I would appreciate feedback that focuses on the big picture, such as what new features would be nice to have or what changes would improve the gameplay a lot.

NOTE: Currently, there is no blog post because the Wordpress app hosted by SourceForge is experiencing extended downtime. The blog post will be published once they have restored the service. For the time being, here is the change log of the release:

-New graphics engine based on Ogre.
-New keyboard-friendly user interface.

-Added an overworld map area.
-Added primitive labyrinth dungeons.
-Added landmark objects that are visible from distance.
-Added several new spells, skills and monsters.
-Spells and skills can be unlocked by completing quests.

-More responsive controls and better hit checking for attacks.
-Several improvements to the AI.
-Added random item fetching and NPC killing quests.
-Added unique attacks and strategies for certain monsters.
-Added cel-shading and outline rendering.
-Added some new character creation settings.
-Added an object specification browser to the editor.
-Large rewrites to make adding and maintaining content easier.

I'm curious: what is this game supposed to be about (when completed)? With a title as strange as that...

The starting post in this thread, at the top part at least, pretty well sums it up---crazed dungeon crawling of the world saving variety with an odd edge to it.   :D

Yes, but what about the specific meaning of the name? "Lips"? And is "Suna" the name of the dungeon complex, or the world?

I...can't remember anymore actually---might've been mentioned before I came across the project and they got a new website as the blog doesn't have deep archives.  Or perhaps it hasn't been explicitly revealed yet.   :-[
