Cosmic Commando v0.2 (Codename: "Engage the Enemy")
« on: May 07, 2013, 09:04:08 AM »
Cosmic Commando is a space opera roguelike.

It features a simple but not too shallow tactical positioning gameplay and unorthodox game structure.
It's pretty hard to beat, but hopefully easy to get into. Feedback very welcome.

Don't get discouraged by low version number. It's dictated by the final intended scope, but the release's scope is a well-polished and self-contained fraction of the whole.

Interesting---what sort of dev pace to you foresee from here in terms of releases and what space operas of a sort can we expect to see you draw from?   8)

Basic plot somehow made me think of Cobra straight away...

I'm aiming for major releases (+0.1 to version number) twice a year, one at Roguelike Release Day and the other sometime between February and May, depending on how it's coming together.

So far Mass Effect series exerts the most influence on me (I based the basic plot on Cerberus from ME, though it evolves semi-consciously from that point), as I played it a lot recently, but otherwise I'll probably be inspired - consciously or subconsciously - by every space opera setting I've been exposed to in a significant amount and that includes Dune (if you count it as space opera), Star Wars, Firefly, Warhammer 40k, StarCraft, Traveller, Eclipse Phase and last but not least Twilight Imperium.

Sounds like a good plan and a solid, growing stable to draw from.
