Need help with Adom!
« on: November 04, 2008, 07:11:18 AM »
Are there any overland shops where one can buy weapons/armour.
I need something to hit monsters with.

Perhaps there is another town to the west of the outlaw settlement?

A pretty pointless post maybe but I'm gussing that there are only two settlements
to be found, Terinyo and the outlaws?

Its been years since I last played ADOM but I know of three other set shops, two of which are in the dungeons, and the other can only be access by going in a dungoen and finding another exit out.

IMO However the best way to find armour and weapons is to find them in the dungeons.

Look for unusal weights on items, this generally means that they are made of better material than iron and generally have better stats.  Also some of my best early game weapons come from large encounters in the wilderness.  Where you collect every weapon and look for the ones that dont stack with others and equip it.  I have often found a spear of devastation after running into a hugh pack of hill orcs. You also will unfortunately find cursed items this way.

Finding a altar in the early game and using many sacrifices, you can get pre-crowned will generate an artifact.

Good luck with ADOM. It is the game that got me hooked on roguelikes.

Sorry to disappoint, but Terinyo and the outlaw settlement are the only easily-acessible towns reachable without going through dungeons.  Shops other than the food shop in Terinyo and the black market in the bandit settlement are random or later on (in parts of the game I have, sadly, never reached).  Fortunately, there are lots of weapons you can find everywhere from dead enemies.  It really bites when your weapon gets ripped apart by an exploding door, but persevering through those sorts of situations makes your game more interesting (or, shorter because you can't hit anything).  With luck, you can find something useful nearby or at the black market.

TMV (The Mountain Village) is quite easy to reach too, if you go for that shop early on! (I often kill Kranach before I get too high for that quest. Then the outlaw chief and his friends, collect that gold. Then I rush down to TMV. (Aslong as I've found the down stair-case before I got to level 7-8))

Anyway, I found myself asking questions I thought was stupid on forums too, about settlements, towns and generally the worldmap. A really good advice I got was to just create a char to explore the worldmap fully. I can pass on that piece of advice, as it really was one of the milestones for me in ADOM :)
