The Mad God has lured heroes from around the world to become food for his minions.  Can you band together and turn the tide against Oryx the Insane?

Realm of the Mad God is a cooperative MMO shooter.  Play together with thousands of others in a frantic real-time bullet hell game.  Dodge blasts from devious monsters while you work with friendly teammates to take down the Mad God himself.  Realm is a major advance for MMOs, putting dozens of players into the middle of an intense action game straight out of the arcades.

The game is free to play in your browser right now.  Jump in for 5 minutes or stay for hours.  It is easy to get started and doesn't require registration.

 * Action combat!  No turn-based battles here, only skilled running and gunning.
 * Epic boss battles.   Navigate demented waves of bullets from nasty demons.
 * True cooperative play.  All experience is shared and you win by playing together
 * Great 8-bit art:  Retro styling FTW.  It isn't a game unless you can see the pixels.
 * Easy leveling.  No mindless grinding.  Get better by being becoming better.
 * Over a dozen unique character classes.  Play as a powerful wizard, a clever mystic, a brawling warrior.
 * Loot!  Hundreds of weapons, potions, armors, and rings.
 * PermaDeath.  Dying well means something in Realm.  Earn fame if you survive for long enough and kill enough monsters.
 * Sheep. The sheep say 'Baa'

Still free, and apparently not "pay to win"---likely a bright future ahead of it!   It has come a long way indeed since the TIG Source competition.

I also came across this art maker for it which seems spiffy if a tad unexplained in the grand scheme of things:

Oryx the Insane?  The Oryx?

But, um, otherwise what does this have to do with roguelikes?

From my limited time with it in earlier dev, it embraces a number of Roguelike tropes that are generally very much not the order of the day for MMO's and perhaps best fits under my oft stated "Eh, close enough---the inspirations were clear".   If Triangle Wizard went online, and became much moreso bullethell'ish---I'd still consider that close enough as well to give a terrible example.   :D

Yep, pretty sure it is that Oryx, TIG Source has a page up on it today as well lauding how far this little compo game has climbed since the original tileset was release alongside the early alpha.
