Labor: 16 hrs including small breaks

Started with my 7DRL project from last year, Rogue Kudzu. Made all new artwork, replacing old. Gutted kudzu specific code. Cleaned up a few engine problems while figuring out solutions to design problems. Implemented dice roll pool. Implemented "battle" and "RNG manipulation". Implemented new win and lose conditions. Minimum viable product achieved, I think.

To do: Sleep. Replace Dice roll placeholder UI. Sound and Music. Play-testing. Balancing. Polishing.

Dice roll pool graphics and animation. Added context sensitive hinting. Some gameplay balancing happening, and playtest builds shared.

Labor 30 hrs

Progress slows as I am back to the day job, at best 4 hours of jam per night until Friday. Animation of dice rolls when "fighting" (actually gambling) occurs. Makes it easier to see the outcome. Next I want to do some fun effects and feedback when the opponent is defeated.

I've added a simple inventory system to allow player to carry one item, or to swap with an item on the floor. Before this, items were used immediately upon touching them. This is one of various other improvements made based on play-tester's feedback. Much work was done to get the game's mechanisms to read well, but I think some degree of opaqueness is going to remain. Also added multiple endings.

On the home stretch. I think just audio work remains, unless I dream up some amazing new last minute feature.

Unfortunately I get a "No such file or directory" error while running the command on Linux. Is this an Unity game? I think I have run into this problem before. I've set up permissions right. Are you sure you compiled it as a 64-bit binary? That being said I'm able to run other Unity games normally but this does seem to come up from time to time.

javelinrl, Its exported as 32 bit. I uploaded a 64 bit version now if you'd prefer.

Alright, it works now! In the future, you needn't even bother uploading a 32b version, I don't think anyone uses that anymore... The Steam hardware survey is not the most comprehensive resource out there but it shows the trend for 64b at least http://store.steampowered.com/hwsurvey?platform=linux

I really like your game1 It's a very interesting coffeebreak roguelike. It's very minimal but in doing that it delivers perfectly. There's no item bloat, enemy bloat, etc. It's fun, intelligent, innovative, short and sweet. Congratulations on your success and in my opinion this is certainly one of the better ones this year!

If I need to make criticism, I'd say that its minimalism is also it's greater flaw: on my second playthrough I was able to beat the game with $11k or something (it's super effective! 8)) - and even though I quite like the game I don't see much reason to pick it up and play again... maybe if I have a little time to waste, but usually I do that by browsing the web anyways...

I'd love to see a "hardcore" version of the game (maybe titled "commercial ASCII roguelike dev"?  ;D) where maybe some of the dice are question marks instead of actual values - the harder the difficulty level, more dice are "hidden" that way. Everything else works the same but it adds some randomness that the player has to manage, predict, plan ahead and recover from when things don't go this way. I'm sure it would add a lot more replayability to your game!

Thanks again for the 64b upload and thanks for the great game - as I've said it was short but very sweet and interesting! It really delivers well on its concept!

Hm, I'm using 32 bit system right now. ...only because my PC with 64bit OS is in repair service, but it does still count, doesn't it? :D

Anyway, it's nice little game, with big potential in the main idea, but currently it's waaaaay to easy. Only first day can be somewhat challanging, due lack of money. Later it's just about "gamble if I have winning result, else search trash can or use item"
