Dreamhack v0.2b "Merry" released!
« on: September 27, 2009, 11:25:44 PM »
New Dreamhack version. Doesn't contain everything I'd like it to, but I promised a release this weekend. Does have the beginning of a new interface and the house is now colored. Floors are different colors, walls are different colors, etc. etc.

Congratulations on making progress! I'd give it a try immediately, but I must now go eat pancakes. Seriously.

EDIT:
Fenrir steps back into the room. His fur sticks to itself in places and the smell of maple is on his breath.

I ate pancakes and I'm playing Dreamhack. Is wearing lasagna a bug or a feature? It's hard to tell in a dream.

Cheers for progress and pancakes!  For a walk on the wild side Fenrir, take some waffle batter and try to cook it in a skillet as one would a pancake as opposed to putting it in a waffleiron.  I call it a panwaffle.   8)  (Beget from our machine utterly ruining attempt # 1 at a waffle...)

Has there been a Roguelike that features pancakes?  Surely the world needs a special themed Pancake Jamboree floor...

I never had a waffle from a waffle iron. The only waffle I ever ate was one of those frozen waffles - tolerable, but not delicious.

Setting the game in a dream really has opened up options for awesome craziness (like pancake themed levels). Add some zany dream mechanics (gameplay mechanics, not the kind that repairs automobiles) and this game could easily end up on my list of favorite roguelikes.

This reminds me, the other Dreamy Roguelike I know of aside from that Psychadelic one is Legerdemain.  Tried it for size Elig?

I love pancakes and waffles, especially waffles from a waffle iron with strawberries and whip cream. Mmm. Anyway, thanks for all the encouragement guys! It really makes a difference :D You guys rock.

The ability to wear various random items is technically a bug, but I've found it doesn't hurt anything and it adds a certain dreamlike quality. Eventually I'd like the player to be able to wield pies and cakes and things anyway, so I went ahead and left this bug in. And I ran out of weekend, since I wanted to have a new release this weekend :D

I actually haven't played much Legerdemain, but I definitely will now :) Thanks again!

That reminds me of this weird roguelike I played where you're a runaway banana farmer or something, and the game touted the ability to "wield any common object as a weapon" so the first thing I did is a grabbed a bundle of bananas and dual-wielded bananas.

Amazingly enough I gained skill ranks in Banana and eventually was slaughtering the denizens of the dungeon with mushy bananas. Then I randomly got leprosy and all my limbs fell off. My last moments were spent squirming slowly across the floor on my belly, with no arms or legs, and trying to bite some enemy which proceeded to finish me off.

Ivan of course, didn't know you could level in banana :)
Of course as soon as you limb fell off you should of wielded it... just after you had a health potion to stop the rest of your limbs falling off.  It is funny rolling away from zombies because you have no legs.
corremn's Roguelikes. To admit defeat is to blaspheme against the Emperor.  Warhammer 40000 the Roguelike

You should have called it a draw instead of trying to bite his legs off. (You had to see that reference coming.)

Do you have a list of features you mean to implement, Elig? Considering how well you're doing, I suppose you must.

Here's the official list. Of course, that's just a general overview. There's a lot of stuff I'd like to add in the long term that doesn't appear there, but since it's so far away I figure best to leave it out for now.

It would be nice in Dreamhack if things could happen to your limbs. Like, falling off, getting cut off, shot off, blown off, regrowing, healing, all sorts of fun things. Currently, I just don't have any system for handling damage to different body parts. But that should probably be included in the issues list, it's a feature I've always liked. Banannas are another thing I need to add to Dreamhack, for that matter.

Say, what are your guys favorite foods? Or foods you'd like to see in Dreamhack? It'd be awesome to get some community feedback on food to be included in Dreamhack. Thanks again guys! :D

Curry! =P

Edit: Also bananas.

Edit Edit: Hmm, if you could wield your disembodied head as a throwing weapon you'd definitely have the most out-there game I've ever seen.

There's going to be a town? I'm interested to see how it will fit with the rest of the dream-scape.

Aside from pancakes:  A proper Roguelike should likely contain Turkey Bacon, Pepperoni Pizza, Buffalo, and Lamb!
