Nightmare Tyrant is a 7 Day Roguelike game written for the 2013 7DRL Challenge set in a dark fantasy setting. Pretty traditional. I've now released a Gold edition, which is more polished and contains bugfixes (and is also intended as the last release, barring any outstanding bugs or a sudden urge to tinker with the difficulty level, as I return to my 'big' roguelike).
Download here:https://bitbucket.org/zasvid/nightmaretyrant/downloads/NightmareTyrantGold.zipMajor interesting features:
- non-linear quest-based approach - you can take on up to 5 quests (all have different themes and somewhat different tactical challenges)
- a different approach to advancement - as the player character hacks through the enemies and completes quest, instead of gaining power themselves, the final boss level required to beat the game becomes easier
- multi-dimensional combat roll resolution - instead of just hitting and missing, more results can happen, especially in case of enemy attacks and independently of dealing damage (opponent can hurt themselves or cause some trouble, depending on its type, e.g., a criminal can steal an item from the player character)
The game is very coffeebreak, one complete playthrough takes me 5 minutes, though I imagine it would be a bit longer if I didn't know it intimately.
I welcome any comments, especially on the appeal and innovativeness of aforementioned features (as I do not have enough time to check out and analyse all the roguelikes that come out).
