Well, you're the one who brought it up, so you tell me, I guess? You really are making a complete ass of yourself.

I'll tell you what, there is no "toxic" stuff here so you might go to somewhere else, some social media where it exists in the twisted minds of people like you.

You can come back and talk about meritocracy when you've released Kaduria, okay?

You don't seem to understand that it wont change anything about this forum and the way we disagree with alleged "toxicity". Pseudo-arguments like that are much more common in other social media, not in forums, so it's even difficult to understand why someone would force it in here. Maybe it's because you are an american, everything weird seems to come from there.

You're making the same mistake that many other, less than averagely gifted nerds have made before you

Really. We are going into this? What was your roguelike project again? I can't remember everyone, but I think you were not even a game developer yourself. So you got pretty large mouth in that sense.

I know people have left because of toxic comments since they've explicitly said so.

They can say whatever they want, wont make it true. Saying something is "toxic" means nothing, that's why you can't have a real conversation with these.. people. They don't have real arguments or even motivation to interact with you like normal people would. All they want is promote their game and force everyone to agree with them.

I died even with amulet of life saving in a weird situation. It happened in the first level of sokoban, suddenly a barrow wight appeared and blasted with wand of sleep, then began to drain experience. In fact I died in life drainage. There was also a baby long worm at the right side. I guess I could have done something when I woke up the first time, but what? Elbereth maybe.. This is another of those things, monsters with wands. But I guess it's realistic and you should have protection against sleep etc.

is that women, gays etc. are only welcome as long as they accept verbal abuse at random intervals.

How would you know if anyone is a woman or gay in here? Where do you people even get ideas like that. Besides, luckily we are pretty safe from women, because they don't make roguelikes. For whatever reason, you tell me, you seem to be the expert here on that subject.

3.6.3: Explored mines with Samurai. This time it seemed to be quite easy, but I never know what to do at the end of mines level. The right side had that circular wall, when you dig into it you find some gold. I have AC -5 and good skills in katana so at least close combat is easy-ish. Still, almost died when a soldier ant attacked. Ants seems to be always dangerous. Returned from bottom of mines and I'm now in sokoban. I left my pet dog somewhere before entering mines and now it doesn't remember me. It's just annoying when you need to hurry and it doesn't follow. I also have amulet of life saving.

They have changed file locations for no reason.. it's that annoying users/username location which is "linux style" I guess. You have to find some files there. Of course, options file doesn't seem to work. At least not autopickup, it's off in the options file, but it's on in gameplay. You can change options with O so it's not a big problem, but really?

I used to play Nethack all the time. For years I could have sworn it didn't have a single bug in it.

I have found bugs in Nethack. But I think they are mostly something special, when you do something weird. It may have something to do with the way the "engine" is made, it just doesn't handle all situations that well.

Bugs are common problem if you have C based legacy project like Nethack. I just wish they could add some gameplay stuff as well, maybe next time.

People want a consensus and are threatening to leave if they don't get it.

This is the new millennial way to communicate. People live in a (social media) bubble and only talk to people who agree with them. I guess it was exactly the same when nazis didn't communicate with jews and they were so alienated to each other they didn't even think those others would be people just like them.

Programming / Re: Metrics tools for C++

SourceMonitor does this, it seems to be quite old(?) program (that sweet xp style), but quite nice. It has mostly text data and some graphical stuff which I think is not that useful, but it's a free program so can't really complain.

Early Dev / Re: Auto Fire: A turn-based roguelike car combat RPG

Watched stream 2 for a while. I find development stuff interesting, even though that kind of development is not very similar to working with only C++ and a simple graphics library. I have to check out 3, because I've been using Blender for years (long ago I graduated as animator). This game project isn't actually that bad, because it has an interesting theme for sure. You don't see cars in roguelikes that often.

10 levels doesn't sound like a big game, how large is one level? If the difficulty of the game is anywhere near traditional roguelikes then I think only 10-20% players will win it. Making it easier (rather than shorter) could be a better option, but then you could alienate experienced players. How about adding difficulty levels in some form?

Also, another thing is that roguelikes are supposed to be difficult, that's one of the reasons some players like them. If the gameplay is enjoyable then winning is not that important or it may be a longer term task for the player to learn how to win the game.

Most of the actual roguelike developers are here anyway, so that's me and about two other guys. I've followed reddit's RL dev and to be honest it's more for beginners. I think it's nice for them to have that kind of place to repeat the mistakes we made in the past. It's not about how "active" the forum is, I think we need to take it easy and focus on the actual development of roguelikes. If I can keep working on my projects (nothing is sure in long term) then eventually it will be a success of some kind.
